It's O.K. I have gotten used to it over the years and can hardly hear the tranny over the exhaust system
but, there is always PLENTY to do to these cars to get more and more and moooooore power! It's just when I have a problematic area I fix it in a way where I will not be going back any time soon.

Im more interested in getting a taller/longer 5th gear so that I can get better highway mileage and more top speed... any ideas on the ratio for 5th gear to get that 161mph or better..?

Why not do a 968 6 speed ? Then stretch out the gears to get your higher top speed but where are you going to need all that speed are you planing on trying to get into a gumball rally or ![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
something?

WEDM would work really well for cutting gears. I couldnt think of a more efficient and effective way to do it. A lot of shops are slow now, if you could get some drawings and maybe a couple more people, I'm sure the price would be reasonable and they would be super nice gears.
Im not familiar with how the gears actually look or how complex they are, but a simple turning operation followed by wire would be the ticket.

200MPH?!?! With an early n/a 5th gear? That is pretty fast for a 951 to be going I think.

stock 951 box with that size tire will hit 178 at 6500rpm in 5th mathematically which should be almost identical to real world.
the 951 5th is a .829 and the 944 5th is a .730
with some rough math...
225/60/15 tire is 25.8" tall and has circumference of about 81" which is approx .0013 mile.
6500rpm/.730 gear = 8904 output shaft rpm
8904/3.375 axle = 2638 axle rpm
2638 *60 (minutes per hour) = 158280 rpH
158280*.0013 = 205.7
now if this were done more precisely the number would be about 202, but i round off at the first decimal that i can.

Well since you have put it that way yeah, I see it now with the stock tranny I was in the upper 180ish with the increase of rev's. But I don't think the 951 can really physically handle that speeds. So if you run with a 18" wheel it would also be higher speed correct because the is less turns per rpm and ground coverage?

oh yea that is all well understood (mech engineering major)
im only saying the 200mph thing in response to someone's desire for a taller 5th for higher top speed. first off itd take well over 500hp to get there, along with some serious wheels and tires, brakes the size of the moon and a pretty gnarly suspension setup, not to mention all kinds of aero bits like a large splitter up front and a stonkin 333pg333 wing on the back
