AUTOTHORITY MAF SETUP?

AUTOTHORITY MAF SETUP?
I have already purchased a used Autothority MAF sensor with cold air intake and chip set. I bought it a month after I bought my 951, and it has been sitting in the box since then. I have read some discouraging things about Autothority stuff and am wanting some feedback from anyone using the setup. I am doubtful that this will add 88 hp per Autothority's claim. Does anyone out there run this setup? If so, what is your opinion of the product? I know we are not to bash any manufacturer here, but I am just looking for feedback as to what I should expect if I install this on my stock '86 951. I won't be doing it any time soon, as I am currently dealing with a garage bound car - see my post '86 951 won't start.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

Install it on a stock 951, run the autothority boost method (banjo bolt), and always use 91 octane and you'll be fine. It's not the greatest system anymore and can be dangerous when running elevated boost levels but for a mild performance upgrade it's not bad if you already have it. The chip get rich in the middle and lean on top so monitor boost closely.
Save up some cash and upgrade to a Vitesse unit in the future if you want great A/F ratios and turbo flexability.

Jeff I'm running the Autothority Maf. It runs fine if you bought it from Autothority. Be aware that some of the Ebay stuff may not be the right setup. It happened to me and then I had to get a couple of new parts from autothority. I'm actually just going through a blown headgasket but the problem was that it was 17 year old gasket. Once I get done with this problem, I'm going to install the Wide band setup to check the A/F ratio(I got the AEM). I would recommend doing this.

+1 for Vitesse. I read a lot on MAF's before buying the Vitesse system and recall quite a few threads from folks running your system with no problems. As mentioned, there's little/no tunability and the chips run lean up top which is exactly where you don't want them to run lean so make sure you put in an aftermarket boost gauge and a wideband AFR otherwise your next search will be "blown headgasket".

Guys be aware. I'm in fact running very lean and I bought it straight from Autothority. Please make sure you have a AFR gauge. I'm not going to tell you guys what to do but if I had to do it again I would buy from Lindsey or Vitesse.

Yea, any piggy back or better chips will richen up the top end. Like others have said, not a bad set up per se, just very out dated now.

I have had APE MAF system for a while now- no issue with the 2.5L. I did have them tune the MAF system for my 3L though and again, no issue at 20+ lbs of boost.

Or just get a piggy back tuner and can just richen it up as you need it. But that would require wideband.

Lucky,
To answer this is a different way. The PO of my car installed a K27/6 and an Authority MAF system before I bought the car. I bought my 951 in '98 so its been running around on AutoMAF for more than a decade and the car will hang with most street cars around here. It has been fine. Maybe not the newest and best but functional.
That said, I am on my quest for more power. I have a complete Vitesse system going in the car. I will likely put on a Vitesse Camshaft and Turbo to go along with this. I want a nice streetable 350-400rwhp if I keep the 951. I just wanted more than the Authority system could provide. But leaving it on for more than a decade should say something...

And real world evidence that the MAF is of little importance relative to the tuning and/or turbo.
Which begs the question "if anyone is spending over $150 for the MAF alone...STOP!!! lol Your money should be on the chip/PB/turbo and not the MAF itself.
