Default re: 3l Block?

Noticed from the pictures that was something around the bottom of the cylinders finger spread silicon?

I am just wondering if the voids in the 3l block are filled with metal or silicon?

I am asking because I am planning on filling in the voids on the bottom of my block and wondering what Porsche used on the 3l to fill in the voids.

Thom, just another to congratulate you and your build. Having seen it develop on the PCGB forums I hope it exceeds your expectations. Definitely one of the cleanest builds I've seen anywhere. Congrats.

gcb951,
I also noticed more vibrations. They were not that bad, but I still decided to replace the Super Mounts with OEM mounts after the first 1000km, during the first oil change.
I would say they would be ok for a stripped-out race car with no sound insulation but on a road car, which needs the best possible level of NVH, they are just too much. I just didn't like how I could hear the vibrations in the driveline and feel the vibrations in the feet and in the steering wheel when loading the engine in fifth gear up from 2500rpm.

BB,
On the 104mm block the bottom of the coolant chamber around the cylinders is an integrated part of the block. The voids seen from below in the 100m block are hidden by plastic caps on the 104mm block, attached by bolts secured with threadlocker.

Patrick, George and Duke, thanks!

Very impressive project. Love the finished 'sleeper' look. France doesn't boast having the 24h Le Mans for nothing.

Welcome to the world of 3.0 turbo gearbox frustrations, I have the 968 6 speed but 6th is not even as long as the 951 5th. Options for a longer geared 6 speed are very limited indeed.....

Yes options are limited but not nil.
Have found what would be the ideal gearbox but they are hard to come by and I'm not sure it will stand the power of our cars. Working on it.

Is it that you don't like the ratios of a stock 951 box or you don't think it will stand up to the power hike Thom?

The engine passed the 5000km mark this morning on the Autobahn.
I raised the boost from 15 to 16psi, the gearbox seems to stand the power pretty well.
The gearing with the 951 5 speed gearbox is fine, the problem is just that there should be a 6th gear on top of it, as the revs climb pretty quickly in 5th gear and it's frustrating to stop at 280kph or about on the speedo as there isn't an extra gear to allow you to clock another 20 or 30kph.

The gearbox I am looking for has about the same first five gears as the 951 trans but has a 6th gear that would theoretically allow for clocking 330kph at 6500rpm. That would be nice as my engine feels like it will bring me up there without any effort.
