Default 10mm bolt on the intake manifold

OK, so how in the hell do you get the 10mm bolt that holds the dip stick tube onto the intake manifold back in? I cannot get the damn thing to cooperate!

I have a stud there... why not make it a stud rather than a bolt?

I see, you really need to start the bolt before you install the intake, notch the dipstick and slip it over then ratchet wrench.

I got my cutters out and slotted the piece of metal on the dipstick holder so that I could thread the screw into the intake a little and then just slide it in when I was putting the intake back on. Then you just have to get in there with a wrench and tighten it up.

I figured that out AFTER the intake was pretty much completely on. This was my first time with the intake manifold off. This mistake will not happen again.

I actually feel a little better now knowing that I'm not the only one who has struggled witht the dumb thing. Could they have made it any less accessible?

As it sits now, the entire thing is back together except for that bolt, which now sits somewhere in the engine compartment because I dropped it on my 43535653567 atempt to get it in. They could have at least put some hair around it for me....

So am I OK to drive it without it in?

Long extension and a wobble attachment (?) on a 1/4" drive rachet has always worked for me.

So here's what I ended up doing.

First, I went and bought a new bolt. The other one is gone in the abyss of the engine compartment.

Then I removed the dip stick tube. I used a pair of long needle nose pliers to hold the bolt in place. I then used a ratcheting wrench to get it started. Each "turn" of the wrench was only 1 cicks worth of the ratchet. One it was in there secure enough to not fall out. I used a 1/4" drive 10mm socket with a universal joint. I tightened it up about 2/3 of the way. Then I cut out a notch on the dipstick tube attachment point, put it back in, and then tightened the bolt down the rest of the way.

Whoever designed that bolt placement needs to be shot.
