Default Do you let your fuel tank go close to empty?

... or do you fill up when you get the chance? I usually always top it up, but i'm wondering if there is any myths or issues with having a full tank all the time or running near empty ( i know you save more gas when it's near empty because of less weight) But is it bad on the fuel pump with very little gas in the tank? i.e. gunk and crap that sits at the bottom of the tank.

I daily drive my car, and I just fill er up when the needle goes below empty and the gas light goes on!

I have also heard if you consistently leave the car very close to empty it can be bad for the fuel pump

The story is, on a "normal" car, with the pump inside the tank, its not good to let the pump come out of the fuel, as it uses the fuel to keep cool.

Our cars, obviously that doesn't matter because the pump is outside the tank.

I think all that is a wives tale anyway. The pump is full of fuel all the time, thus keeping the motor cool. Run it till the light comes on! lol

Have you ever coasted into a station? I know I have.

I usually fill up around the time the gas light comes on, a bit before or a bit after - but no boosting once the light comes on.

I run well into the gas light. Only coasted into the station once after having to restart the car at the light before haha.

ran out of fuel entirely at about 75mph, luckily i was about a half mile from my exit which happens to have 2 gas stations 300 feet from the offramp. just coasted down the offramp, to the light, it turned red...

...but the road is a slight hill so i just rolled down the hill from a stop and rolled into the gas station

Normally refill between 1/2 and 1/4 tank... why take the risk?

With how inaccurate the gas gauge is on all of our cars (1/4 tank off) i usually fill up when it says i have about 1/4 tank left.. its closer to 1/2 a tank which is about right as it usually ends up around 10 gallons roughly.

I almost made it to the gas station I was going about 90mph on freeway when I ran out, made it to the off ramp coasted through 2 red lights(luckily no traffic) and was coasting into the gas station when my steering wheel locked :X I tried starting it the last red light and didn't get the key back in the right position. I stopped and pushed it the last 15 feet.

I fill up after the light goes on normally.

My gauge is very inaccurate as well, except for the lower 1/4 of the tank seems to be right.

I've also gone 50ish miles with the light on. Started to sweat the last 5 miles or so, cause my luck usually runs out with in sight of a good thing LOL. My car made it though. Love my car <3!
