Let's talk a little modification
Ok everyone, I'm planning on doing some mods to my '86 951. I need recommendations, feedback, etc.
The list of options-
Turbo - Lindsey racing Super 53, Garrett T3, or T4?
MAF - Lindsey Racing, or Autothority?
Machining - Lighten Cam or Port and Polish heads?
And also, what rods would you recommend?
Any help will be great.

Adam, I would do a bit more research on companies if I were you by looking at your list of parts and vendors. Search a few older threads about Lindsey Racing, Vitesse, Speed Force, CEP (Custom Engineered Performance), 944 Enhancement, etc. You'll hear a million opinions but read for yourself an peoples actual experience with each company, don't go with hear-say. If you're planning to spend some money, go with the best choice you can find. If you decide to go with hear-say then I guess I can save you some time and just say straight up CEP is the best, you're welcome. I just saved you 5 hours. Take care.

Agreed. As for budget, I'm not sure yet. The blades on my turbine are pretty beat up (however, nothing was found wrong with the engine) and I'd rather go with a new turbo. I baffled my oil pan (Fifth Gear Automotive suggested I do so) because apparently it can cause the number two cylinder to go through the block. Im not so worried about my internals, those were just things I figured I would throw in for when I do need them.

A baffle will keep the cylinder from going through the block? LOL a baffle will keep the oil where it needs to be during tight turns (near the oil pickup) but i dont think it will keep the cylinder from doing anything its not suppose to.

They skipped the whole story and went right to the end. The baffle is suppose to keep the oil where it belongs, so that it can make it to the #2 rod bearing and keep the #2 piston assembly from taking a vacation from the crankshaft.

Yes, that's what they explained to me, and showed me a few blocks that had thrown the #2 piston straight through the block. However, there's no way of telling if that was the cause or not.

Chris is right.....if you're going to tune an old engine to 400hp, the first thing to do is rebuild the engine.
If you leave it alone and bolt on parts, you will be rebuilding a lot sooner than you thought.
