Default Electric assist turbo?

The next gen cars from BMW (3 series), Mazda (RX-8), Ford are all rumored to be turbo cars w/electric assist. The bimmer is a three pot with a little turbo on it, apparently a little electric motor spins the turbo up at low rpms providing a ton more torque.

Anyone ever done anything like this on our cars? Is it feasible? Seems like it could be really cool if done properly. What about an electric compressor hooked to the tach and the input of the turbo that can push air through the turbo at low rpms or something?

Feasible?

Seems like a lot of work for little benefit.

Besides I like a little lag.

Yeah, read my post. They mean the electric motor spools the turbo.

The mention it briefly here: http://feeds.autoblog.com/~r/weblogs...3/xBNQPtStnBU/

Also looks like the power requirements are a big issue, talking about having a 3 min on 1 min off scheme and such.

Man this is a lot more complicated than I pictured, I was just thinking an aquarium pump duct taped to the side of my turbo.

I feel so stupid spending all this money on my 951 when I could have just used the extra old Homelite in the garage. Duh! Hum, can you get NOS in an aeorsol can? Got a couple of rolls of duct tape here somewhere......

Just put a big inner tube in the hatch, hook a hose to it, run it to the turbo and turn on the valve and wa la instant turbo boost with no weight gain.

ps : not drug induced thought
