Quality FG Hood interest
#16
Here is the vent design. Note that the one pictured here is for someone who wants to add it to an existing hood. For the complete FG hood I wanted it to be blended in so it doesn't look like a separate piece. And I think thats exactly what he's going to do.

FYI, the extractor behind the intercooler on the 968 work because the hood is longer. To get similar placement of the extractor vent on a 951, you'd have to have the vent in the middle of the seam between the edge of the header panel and the edge of the hood, and would have to remove/cut out the hood latch and move it to the sides like on the 968 turbo. The 968 turbo has the intake box in the same place as the 951, but the extractor vent is in front of the intake box, which puts it into the hood latch and the header panel.

I'm sure Joe appreciates everyone's opinions on what they believe is the best design. Rest assured the vent placement has been tested and works very well. He will speak to the testing thats been done. Also, there will likely be one mold made, so hopefully it will give folks the option and quality they're looking for.

Hey guys,
I've volunteered to carry out some testing of Joe's hood vent and splitter combo during a couple of upcoming track days in Oregon (Portland International Raceway and the new Oregon Raceway Park) next week. Besides monitoring coolant temperature and oil pressure, I'll be carrying out some baseline testing of intercooler inlet and outlet pipe surface temperatures with and without the hood vents open. I think the improved air flow through the intercooler will result in lower outlet pipe temperatures. Will report back with results. I've attached a few photos. I think it looks very aggressive. Please ignore the $6.00 Home Depot spray bomb hood paint job...
Side note - Normally when I'm at the track, I pop the hood when I get back to the pits to cool things off, and am exposed to a skin-melting blast of hot air. I'm hoping this vent will keep things substantially cooler. So far it looks promising - after a gentle cruise around town, with the car parked idling and the radiator fans on, you can feel a lot of hot air pumping through the vent.

Hey Lorenzo - PIR is on August 13th, ORP is on August 14th. It's being put on by Proformance Racing. Rich Sandor called me the other day, and may be coming down for the ORP day.
Tony / DVC - you'll have to talk to Joe Toth about that. I just got off the phone with him , and he said he doesn't mind me giving you guys his contact info. His number is 604-329-9391, and his email is tei@telus.net.
Bill - I don't think so, but you could ask Joe. From the look of it, the vents protrude both above and below the hood line (to help pull air out from under the hood).
Me too - I am in no way affiliated with his company, just happy with his products.
So far clearance does not appear to be a big issue with the splitter. I have 4 big speed bumps in my townhouse complex, and another 4 speed bumps at my parking garage at work - no scraping at all.

If the vented version truly keeps our engine bays cooler, I'm a buyer. My engine bay feels like a campfire with old red hot coals sometimes when I pop the hood after a good run.
