You all are doing what I did in high school in So. Ca. in the mid to late 50's. We put louvers in rows on both sides of the hood. I had machine and auto shop and we hopped up engines an did all kinds of custom work on our cars. Back then we had car clubs with custom made license plates we molded in shop. Keep up the good work you all are doing. I like the look of the stamped louvers the best as they remind me of the past.
Cheers,
Larry

Progress update on my vents. Cut a 9" x 19" hole in a stock hood, suprisingly there was less than a 1/16" delfection in the hood with that large a hole in it. The vent is in the hood and ready to wax for making the mold. Hopefully Monday I can get the mold done and Tuesday pull the first part.

The vent is finished. This is the first part out of the mold. There is 44 sq. in. of opening. Tomorrow I'll work on attachment to the hood for those who don't wish to glass it into the hood. Next Monday I start production for the local friends who have watched the development and got interested in a new upgrade.

Here is Joe's new vented hood installed on my car, in combo with his street-version front splitter. As discussed in the other thread, I'll be heading south for some track days to test it out.

Hey that's very cool. Looks so simple but it took someone to actually do it. Well done Joe.
Our cars have been crying out for a modular hood vent that can be purchased. What would be really cool is to see it in a windtunnel and get some heat reads off of it....anyone got a W/T they can spare?

Didn't guns say at one point that he was going to do wind tunnel testing of his car-in-progress? Maybe we could send him a hood and have him try it.

Guys, we're not driving Formula 1 cars where you need a wind tunnel to test the effectiveness of a vent. Joe will be doing some testing and I'm sure he'll share the methods and results. There are a few methods to determine whether a significant amount of air is exiting the engine bay. But to get to the details of how much volume exactly or the precise pressures would be extreme.

Nah, I was only kidding. Besides Guns has long since dropped that project which is a shame.
This vent looks a great addition to options for us. We're indeed lucky that people are still bothering.

Very nice vent, PM me if you are going to be selling them, one would be nice on the track car.

Someone posted earlier about removing the rubber seal at the back of the hood to allow for better air flow. I think that it would actually have the opposite effect and allow air to be sucked into the engine bay due to the high pressure zone that develops at the base of the windshield. After all, isn't that how a cowl induction works?

Default New Hood Vent

Thought I would pass along the next step in the hood vents. I am now in the proccess of making two smaller vents for the sides of the hood. These will be approx above the strut towers. By the time I have all the vents in place there will be almost 60 square inches of opening in the hood

not sure how effective the side ones will be as the area for airflow underneath them is pretty small compared to the center vent.

Someone suggested we could possibly vent some of the heat particularily on the passenger side from the header.
