Thanks for this thread. Decided I had to do this, so I've ordered the Napa part and will be doing this over the winter when I'm back.

Thanks for the info on the metal HCV!! Do you happen to have a part number? With one of these I may finally put one back in my car. I had an OEM one fail 8 years ago and never put it back in(wasn't worth losing another clutch).
Sorry to bring this thread back to life. Can someone tell me how the Audi valve ports match up to the Porsche one? Which audi valve port is the same as the white one on Porsche?

I'm thinking of going the metal route althought the Porshce part is cheaper to purchase.

Fits some Audis and several 90's Fords so relatively easy to find.
Here it is.

I was thinking of doing this, (after I check my receipts to see if this was done).

How about the 10 cent fix?

I am going to put a nice tight piece of duct tape over the inspection hole. If mine blows on the track or where-ever, at least I won't need a new clutch...

It looks like the link is still active.

The specs say that it's plastic, but it looks like metal. No idea which way is in, or out. Probably doesn't matter.

Not certain, but if you bleed your coolant system properly, there is no good reason not to use the origianl plastic part. Only time, or your own failure to properly bleed the coolant will cause a failure, and by time I mean 15-20 years.

I may be wrong but I don't think it makes a difference as long as you have the vac in the right place. Valve open hot coolant runs through so heater core heats up, valve closed no coolant no heat.

Looks like Autozone updated the link to this part - Audi metal heater control valve link.

I alwys wondered why there wasn't a cover of some kind, over this, after hearing storys of coolant and bolts etc falling in. Seems like an oversight on Porsches part.

Here is another all metal heater control valve that is a direct replacement. It costs a little more, but I think I would prefer it over the AutoZone unit. http://www.928motorsports.com/parts/heatervalve.php
