Also, if you have been having a drop in pressure, PLEASE check your rod bearings especially the #2. If you blow a rod bearing, it is a very expensive fix. To replace the bearings is not easy but the alternative is worse.>>trust me on this one.

Isn't the cooler bypassed until the oil heats up enough though? I could have sworn that was how mine was setup when I rebuilt it earlier this year.

So I guess in that case he would either have no thermostat or it was broken and allowed the oil to flow past at all temps?
