H.I.D. upgrade pics
Hi,
I thought I would post these shots for anyone having any doubts about installing hids on a 944. I used the following items:
-x2 ecode lenses from Travis at www.rennbay.com
-x1 high/low beam 4300k H.I.D. kit from www.vvme.com
The install is pretty straight foward, everything is plug and pay, you just need to plug the H.I.D harness to the existing harness to control high and low beam. The H.I.D. kit has its own fused harness and all. I started by cutting off the provided fuse holder to intall something a little more heavy duty. I then lengthened the 12 volt line so I could mount the controller and one of the ballasts under my MAF air intake. Make sure you install the controller in a dry area which cannot be reached by water. The ballast seems to work fine when exposed to water. I mouted the passenger side ballast right by the windshield washer tank (still looking for a hidden place). I used the driver side frame rail to ground the driver side ballast and used the ground on the ABS sensor harness for the passenger side.
I still have an aftermarket H4 kit installed as back-up. I believe I was using 50/100 watt H4 Hella bulbs. I don't have any before pictures but the H.I.D. kit does seem to do a better job especially since the emitted light is crystal white like daylight. The last pic is low beam and the before last is high beam. Here are the pics:

That price on vvme.com really pisses me off ! $68 !!
I paid over £400 a few years ago for a similar setup, never fitted it until last year then broke one of the bulbs trying to figure out how it focused. Threw the kit back on the shelf and went with Future's dual light setup.
Maybe I'll try again at that price.
regards,
Mike

Should have been a little clearer, my bad - will the included harness substitute for the Rennbay harness, or would I want to use both? I actually have the whole Rennbay E-Code kit w/harness. I love the Bi-Xenon's in my wife's Mercedes, so if I can have that nice white light in the Porsche it would be really sweet. I haven't looked at the wiring that closely yet, so am wondering if I should do both Travis' harness and then plug the Bi-X harness into that, or if I can get away with just the harness in the Bi-X kit?

The supplied H.I.D. harness is a complete substitute with it's own controller, ballasts, grounds and fused power source. The H.I.D. bulbs will plug directly into the new harness. I reccomend you keep your factory harness or the Rennbay harness as backup. The Rennbay harness or factory harness are in no way compatible with the H.I.D. The only thing that needs to be plugged into the factory harness or your Rennbay harness is one headlight to control high/low beam.
