Default Light flywheel options? WTB one

Obviously Fidanza seems to be the popular choice. Any others?

Who makes this one: http://www.paragon-products.com/Flyw...t_p/199441.htm

The description amuses me: "The friction surface is very special. We use a 1050 high carbon, alloy steel."

To any of you who know any materials science or steels, you know just how "special" 1050 is...

Anyway, any thoughts? I don't need the lightest out there; this is still my DD.

When I did a search a while back. There were issues with every one.. Fidanza seemed to have a reference tab problem, and others just were unknown. I bought a fidanza. works great. They're all about $350 and up

Hmmm, interesting. From what I gather, Fidanza seems to be the "industry standard." Where did you get yours?

Oh hey.. I bought one used on here a long time ago.. The funny part was that I wasn't trying to be cheap, I was wanting to make sure I had one that was actually known to work.. (reference tab issue concern) I've only got about 500 miles on that flywheel. One of the first things I did to the car.

You can put a factory flywheel on the lathe diet.
Mine was done by Under Pressure Performance, they're not far from you in Assonet MA.

I have a Fidanza. I thought about lightening but Dave Lindsey had said that they had seen lightened flywheels crack.

They have also seen head bolts stretch allowing the head to lift off the block while the car was being driven.. but that doesn't stop anyone from turning up the boost does it?

Just turn a stock one down. You can get them just under 9lbs and they work great. A good machine shop should be able to do that for $100-$125 or so..

ps - I've never seen them crack and I have never seen a head lift while driving??? Thats crazy talk.

I've always used the lightweight aluminum flywheel from Fidanza. They work great.

The only issue is you MUST have it balance, no matter what anybody tells you, before you install it. If not, you run a 50/50 risk that you'll be pulling the entire thing apart to do it at a later time.

Ah, thanks guys. I'll definitely do that.

Well, I've had good experiences with Fidanzas in the past, so I bought a new one off of a guy's ebaymotors site. He wanted $300 for it; I messaged him to see if he'd take $250. And he did.

Not too bad a deal, IMO. $250 + shipping for a new Fidanza.

I'll be heading out to Cambridge in mid-late August. Grad school orientation is the last weekend of August, and the semester starts shortly thereafter. Although unfortunately, I won't be takin' my baby with me.
