Default $10k vs $40k allows for *****

Maybe this video has been posted before. But, it shows the difference between smart buy versus "more money"" buy. Proves that the less you spend on your track car... the bigger ***** you grow...

Interesting. But I don't think your comparison is entirely fair. I'm guessing that turbo ain't exactly stock.

I notice that the 951 was only gaining on the straights... Which kinda confirms the popular wisdom about the Cayman; nice platform, good handling, but engine left underpowered to avoid competing with the 997.

I would love to see Porsche wise up and abandon the taildragger for a more powerful Cayman. But that's only going to happen very slowly, by popular demand.

Unfortunately that will never happen but if the Panamera takes of then one day we could see a shorter 2 door return to transaxle version if we're lucky

There were a couple of Cayman in my run group at LRP CR last weekend and they are certainly fast!!!! I know I would like a fully track prepared one

Looks like the Turbo walked the Cayman in the last couple of turns also. 'Course we don't know driver ability of the Cayman either. Looks like he had lots of trouble passing the convertible in the beginning while the Turbo slashed right past it. Then again the Cayman went offroading on at least one turn and looks like the driver may have backed off a little from that point. Lots of variables that say this video isn't much proof of anything but 3 guys having fun.

Does anyone know the guy John driving the 951? Says in the Youtube comments that it's running with $10k of suspension mods and 1000lb springs. It would be nice to know more details on this car?

A two-door transaxle car would be nice, but I'd also like to see a more robust midengine coupe.

The decreased moment of inertia associated with midengine does good things for the handling. The video shows an example of this, with the heavier Cayman holding its own with that 951 in the curvy bits (no mean feat).

While the 997 is an amazing and well-engineered car, I think that the basic platform design of the Cayman is superior. If one's goals were only to produce the best possible line of sports cars (in other words, marketing and financial considerations aside), Porsche could certainly do worse than upgrade the Cayman to inherit the 911 crown, and produce a modern transaxle car as its more modestly priced entre.

I'd just like to remind every one that these Povo front engined cars are not real real porsches and are apparently an audi with a truck motor...
or a "poormans Porsche"......
welll schools out they are a real sports car .....
Gee I hope i see that real estate agent in the cayman S on the track ...

looks to me like the 944 outhandled and outran that cayman on every part of the track...

sure the cayman got close in corners, but only because the 951 was in front of him already braking..lol

the driver of the 944 turbo is John Gladwell - club racer, driving instructor, master Porsche tech at Boardwalk Porsche. He is one of the fastest amateur Porsche drivers in Texas. His car is running relatively stock power levels. His 944 turbo is dead and gone now, and he is running a Spec Boxster at better than 997GT3 laptimes.
