951 cupcar ???
#16
I can't post pics since i'm not a member .
The car is a complete EMPTY bodyschell ,I took out the complete drivetrain, and when i got it the hood and mirors where already gone .
The car i have here has no rol cage , and even has a targa roof so that does not point in the direction of a true cup car but the fact still remains that in the Vin decoder it states "Cupcar" .could it be that this vin decoder on renntech is not accurate ,I also found a website where someone was claiming to have 1 of 13 1986 951 Cupcar Turbo S that where build for street use in the US/Canada market ????
I'm sure the true cupcars can be identified by there VIN nr. ,so can someone please help me in that direction instead of trying to identify it by specific parts ,sinds a lot of te parts are missing and are interchangeable .
The point for me is that I have al the later turbo S parts in stock(M44 52 engine ,AOR gearbox,kkk26/8 turbo.....) and if this is A special chassis i would like to rebuild it whit these parts.

You can check out this thread related to early '86 Turbo and Club Sport/Cup VINs

Your VIN looks like a late production stock 86 VIN to me. Appears that the VIN search on renntech is incorrect. Go to Porsche if you want a certified VIN search.
The cups had Matter cages installed by the factory, so there would be weld-in nut plates on the front door sills and in front and behind the rear wheel arches. And since your car does have a sunroof - it is not a Cup/Clubsport tub.
I have never heard of any Cup cars going to Canada in '86. There were approx 35-36 Cars imported for the Rothmans Canadian Turbo Cup series in 1988 - and they were MY88 cars.
Maybe 7-8 M637 optioned Club Sports (Cup Spec) MY 86 cars were imported to the US in '86 and all but one were raced in the SCCA Escort Endurance Series. These cars were NOT "S" Spec. None of the 86 Cup Cars world wide were. The "S" spec changes were made for MY87 Euro Cups and US Club Sports.

Thank you Jim !!!
This was the info I was looking for .Apart from the designation given by the VIN decoder on renntech there is nothing on this car that points in the direction of a cupcar , to erasse all doubt i will ask my local porsche dealer to run a vin check on this car if they too come up with the Cupcar designation than I will rebuild it as a true turbo cup .

But on the other hand Porsche do not list many specific things about the car in PET catalog. They even changed lots of data in last five years about early cars.
My 951 was clearly identified as Clubsort at Porsche dealer VIN check, now that remark is missing. My car was Porsche factory car.
