Where to get the cheapest new LS7 Crate engine from
Hi Chaps
Beni is after a LS7 for his race car to mate a 996 GT2 box to and as we have no experience with crate engine suppilers in the US we'd be very greatful if anybody in the know could point us in the right direction
I have located this supplier in the UK but can anybody find cheaper: http://www.partsworldperformance.com...hp?item_id=194
The engine needs to be new.
Best regards,
Mark

I was offerd a 996 TT tranny for 4200 recently, think its still up for grabs, but it has no LSD, which brings the cost up.

Mark- just how new does it need to be? I pulled all of the LS7 motors off the salvage database US and found one with only 3K miles on it. It would come complete w/all assesories, harnesses, electronics, mounts, headers etc... complete. AND it also comes with the clutch and manual trans mission for 2K US less than your crate motor- to me this is a better value but it is all in what you are looking for.
here is the listing-
2007
Engine (VIN E, 8th digit, opt LS7)
Chevy Corvette complete w/acc & trans MT (DO) 3,000 Miles HWY100 $10500 PRP - Hi-Way Auto Parts Inc. USA-TX(Brownwood) E-mail 1-800-447-0611
If you need help shipping it over to you and do not want the trans I can help you with the trans removal/ sale etc for what ever you feel if fair for my troubles... Just a thought. The company I work for is very familiar with international shipping or use anyone of your choice. Let me know if this could work and drop me a line for further brainstorming if you like.
Cheers, Mike

Mixed thought on the salvage stuff.......... most times ok....... yet in the case of rollover you never know about oil starvation and fatigue/damage.
unless it was a huge $$ savings, new all the way!!!

The LS7 route really makes the most sense and can be easily tuned to produce a good reliable 700hp+. The main advantage is the fact that the engine weighs about the same as the stock 4-pot lump. You can get a nice dry sump kit for these engines also to drop them a little lower on their mounts.
The 996TT box is strong but heavier than the GT2 due to its 4wd design and doesn't as you say come standard with an LSD or uprated clutch where as the GT2 does. I was under the impression that these boxes bolt right up to the LS7 but if this is not the case then a custom CNC'd plate should not be too much of a problem for us to fabricate.
If you need a GT2 box I can probably find one for you at a good price. I fitted one into my old 996 and only paid £4k for it with 8k miles. Here is one at Douglas Valley: http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/item....&spg=33&pgid=2
