Car dies in traffic, help!
Ok so my mechanic replaced my timing belt and fixed my turbo oil leak by removing the intake manifold.
Problem is now i have frequent car stalls while im cruising or stuck in traffic! My first thought it was the DME fuel relay, i swapped that and it fixed it temporary. in the same drive it stalled again. This time i wiggled the reference sensors on top of the intake (those two plugs) Every single time i wiggle those, the car starts back up -- but it will die again about 5 or 6 minutes later in traffic.
i was driving the car all day so the engine was hot.
My guess is the reference sensors are bad. I see that Lindsay racing has one. How difficult is this to install, i.e. shop labour time?

sounds like the sensor cables have become brittle due to heat and age although I have only heard on one failing before.
Its a 15 minute job to replace the sensors but dammed fiddly with very restrictive access. You'll need someone with small hands
Clarks garage site has a guide to setting the sensor gaps .
With the fault being intermittant and apparently only when the engine is hot I would first check everything else before replacing stuff . Theres a good troubleshooting guide on Clarks as well. Because the garage have disturbed things I would start with checking all the vacumm tubes and electrical connectors

Sebastian,
Most definitely a connector problem and not necesseraily a sensor problem.
here's what I did to resolve the issue:

Good luck!

ALSO btw if it wasn't for rennlist i would of been stuck fifty billion times on the highway not knowing a thing about any reference sensor. It was very embrassing -- she died on me 3 times within 30 minutes in heavy traffic.

Follow your cable down to your o2 senser, make sure it isn't being melted against the downpipe. If the o2 sensor heater wire shorts to ground, you lose your power to the fuel pump. Or just unplug the 02 sensor the next time it happens... Just a thought...Bruce

I replaced both sensors with new and it didn't solve my occasional non-starting issue that I solve precisely by wiggling the harness wires.
I'm not as electrically adept as 951Porschiste, so I got the replacement harness kit from Lindsey Racing.

My wallet is taking a huge beating. I don't trust my electric skills either. I ordered the lindsay racing harness and i also ordered the sensors here locally. It seems everytime i get something fixed something else breaks..

Sebastian - 20+ year old car... I am now on a preventative maintenance plan... Something breaks, fix all things remotely related... Hence $10K for the car, $10K and counting in stuff

Paragon has some reference sensors that are made by oem bosch, but are much cheaper with the same quality. http://www.paragon-products.com/Refe...61.210.002.htm
