I know this is an old thread... I have some new info I thought interesting to add for discussion.

After having concerns about having too much oil pressure, upon the fall oil change last year I replaced the oil with ATF and ran it for 30 minutes at idle. Then drained the ATF, refilled with 20-50 ran for 15 min, drained again changed filter and refilled with 20-50. Now at startup I see 4.5 bar, warm engine idle after normal driving is between 3 and 3.5 bar. The lowest I have seen is 2.2 bar after a 65mph second gear jaunt for ~1 minute (italian tuneup) repeated four times with cooling time in between each jauint.

I think the ATF really cleaned out the pipes (so to speak).

i was looking at this thread because my oil pressure dips to about 2 bar at super hot idle. i just wanted to see what others are getting.

when you start to get into boost at about 3,800 RPM the oil pressure gauge is at 5ish, then does a little blurp dance and goes down to about 4. is this some sort pressure safety valve to reduce pressure? it's always done this.

maybe your oil pressure relief valve is sticking?

depends on what climate you live in. For people in warmer climates a thicker oil is better.
