Default DME Differences

Ok I searched. We all know how well that has been working lately.

Anyhow, What are the differences from year to year with the DME? Also is a 944 DME different physically other then chips from a 951 DME?

The early years DMEs use a 24-pin chip, later years 28-pin chip. Functionality wise no difference to write about.

So if we have a 28pin chip the chips are the only difference between the DME's? All the other internals are the same? Could someone take an 89 Turbo chips and put it into a 86 DME and it would be ok?

There are differences between the 28-pin and 24-pin DME boxes. However, the differences will not alter the performance.

The 28-pin chip will not fit in the 24-pin socket. So plugging the 89 Turbo chip in a early MY86 DME is not physically possible. However, it's easy to get the data from the 28-pin chip on to a 24-pin chip, which will plug in the 86 DME.

Of course, the same thing is possible when going from a 24-pin chip to a 28-pin DME box.
