Okay okay. I will divulge further. My experiences are those of a new owner. I've been a fan of, and have researched 944's for over 10 years. I love them. Never owned one until early december last year, so that's about... 4 months of ownership under my belt.
In the first month, I spent about $800 for a belt job, and brakes (Did the brakes myself on my specialist's lift, but paid for the time I used).
I'm currently fighting a broken hydraulic clutch system. I'm not even gonna bother tracking the problem to one part. I'm replacing the master cylinder, slave cylinder AND the hydro line. Why? Because the masses will tell you, that once one clutch system part goes, it is usually not long before the others follow suit.
So there's another $300, ~$550 total, if I let Rennsport do it.
Next up will be the oil problem I need to track down. I'm estimating at least a grand to find and fix it.
Also, since the car just SHUTS OFF sometimes in the middle of operation, I'm sure there is some electric work I need to do. Either that, or I need to replace a pump and filter. (insert price figure here)
My driver's side half shaft knocks sometimes, which is a buzzkill when it starts acting up. Not detrimental to the performance of the car, but it will need replacing. I'm not going to toy with a rebuild kit. I just want new parts. Necessary? Probably not. It will run me about 300 something dollars to replace that.
I need new weather seals for the car. Kits are over $100.
I'm replacing the front bumper because I thought I was Michael Schumacher, one night. The bumper was a STEAL at around $200 and I'm shelling out a at least $350 to get it painted and matched. BTW it was a bitch to find. Kinda like some of the parts for these cars.
Some things I'm doing on my car myself. Some I will either take to Rennsport or Tom Charlesworth, which will be pricey alone. But Remember this. No matter how big the bill. No matter what goes wrong. The feeling is SO worth it when you pull that sun-roof out and throw on your shades for a cruise.
Double the value of that pleasure when you level the gas pedal and watch the boost gauge tick to the right along with the tach and speedo. I love my car. And No repair bill would ever make me want to sell it. I'd only be stuck saving my money for a while.

You I sort of got the feeling these cars take some time/money to really bea able to enjoy them....I expect it to take a few grand to get it up and running the way I like (not including any performance parts). I will try to do as much as possible myself but know I'll be needing a good P mechanic in the Fresno area soon (anyone know of one??).
Already dropped alittle over 200 today on oil/filter/plugs/manual and a few tools I couldnt find. I wish I knew how to load some pics up....found something interesting while working on it today.
