MAX951 Chips + Low Boost = Lean?!
I've got a N00B question that hopefully someone can answer, maybe even Russel can chime in on this one...
MY car has Russel's chips in it, a 3-bar FPR, etc. and was driven at about 16PSI by the previous owner. (i believe that this is where the chips were "mapped" for)
I currently have the boost peaking at about 12-13 PSI, and was going to leave it there for a little while, until i got acclimated to the surge of power...
Is this a bad idea since the chips were "set to run" at 16? Do i risk running lean, or will less boost just mean more wasted (rich) fuel?
Unfortuanetly, i do not have an A/F meter (yet), so i cannot monitor this myself...
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks guys!!

What makes you think its running lean if you do not have a WB02 sensor? Turning the boost down would make it run rich which should be fine. 11-12psi is stock without chips and FPR. Start there and move up as you get a feel for the car as it is surprisingly different than an n/a.

I'm guessing you dont KNOW you're lean, just asking if its possible since there's a question mark after the thread title. I'm also guessing you have stock injectors since you're running a 3bar FPR. Turn the boost back up and have fun, unless you're running summer tires...

Personally I think it is crazy to mod one of these cars without knowing at least the A/Fs. I would get a guage right away. The LC-1 setup from innovate is easy to read and straightforward to install....

Your fine if your turn the boost down. Drive and have fun.

Nelson, the answer to the post from your link came from russell himself. He seems to know his stuff. Pleanty of people run these cars without A/F gauges when mods are light, and components are from known vendors, like Max 951. It is possible to run rich when running less boost than the chips are mapped for...as others have posted, it is also possible to run lean if something else is broken. If it were me, I would turn it back up to 15psi, which is the low end of the "window" on those chips, and dont worry about it. You can regulate boost and power with your right foot too, you don't have to run around with your foot on the floor if it makes you uncomfortable. It does have an open diff, so that will help you from getting in too much trouble.

Hey Nelson,
Congrates on the car! As Mr. Lindsey said, drive it and have fun, you can hurt nothing by turning the boost down to stock levels.

You wouldn't be lean.. you'd be rich on boost if anything.
I have run my 951max chips at 11-13psi when they are mapped for 15-18psi irrc. The car still runs great just not nearly as quick

Thanks for all of the input guys! The physics of it told me that it would just be running real rich, but figured that it was worth a 2nd opinion. I'm planning on keeping it where it is for the first week or two, and then dial it back up to 15-16 like Ryan said....
Thanks again guys! You rock!!
