What is the best / most suitable type of core to start from, Bar and Plate or Tube and Fin?

Most use bar and plate. You should check with 333pg333. He had a guy in Au, make one for him. I think his company name was Plazma man??

aribop-Did you have any coolant temperature problems with the larger intercooler?

No. Temp always stayed on the first hash mark.

I disagree. Until you show me actual differences or gains in the 'better cores', you simply cannot beat the price of the ebay IC's. I'm not trying to bust your *****, Dave. Well, maybe a little.

Looks good Albert.

Looks good Albert.
If you're going to bust them, you've got to stop hugging them.
Actually you or Dave may be right. You need someone smarter than me to tell you. Mine was built by Plazmaman. Has a good reputation over here and they sell parts to the US and elsewhere. He was also adamant that the core was fundamental to the success of the i/c. He also re-iterated the coarseness of the core was important.

The workmanship on Albert's car is always pleasing to the eye. I wonder if there is any pressure issues with the oil cooler ducting and no escape route for the through air? I like it though. Might have to do something similar.

Tom, I have kept my a/c to date and the compressor sits right up snug in position. I was expecting to see potentially a big rise in temps with the large front mount but not so far. I would say I normally sit just about the first line. In hot Sydney traffic it creeps a little but I just rev it some, and get the water pump to kick in and the temps drop immediately.
I agree with Derek in that nobody in here has done a quantifiable test of various i/cs (as far as I'm aware?), but the object for me was to increase the VE totally across the board on my 3L build so the i/c, pipes, t-body, inlet have all been increased in size or flow characteristics...and that's before you get to the motor.
I would definitely do it on your car put it that way.

I think the FMIC is the way to go, but looking at these installs I'm wondering what would happen if you bump the front bumper. doesn't look like there is any room for the
bumper to move.
Are they really that tite or is it just the pics?

I looked up a Bell intercooler at this size and it is around $500. The SFR setup which includes hardpipes looks like it is cost competitive. I am going to mod the end cap on my stock unit first, the SFR unit looks like the next step.

From the Bell site: Size (3.50 22.90 8.00) Airflow (1503 CFM) $495.00 P/N (A350229080)

Has anyone ever done a test to see if the vented panels do any good? I always wondered if it causes a vacuum since it is in a low pressure zone and would pull air out before it gets to the IC. I have read lots of talk but I havn't seem any test results. A couple of pieces of yarn taped to the front would tell alot. Maybe Chris can do some wind tunnels tests.

Found this graph from a post.
https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ted+nose+panel

The numbers on the body relate to the numbers along the horizontal axis in the middle of the preasure chart.

Thanks for the kind words The through air just goes out through the holes in the radiator support and into the engine compartment. Seems to have worked out well as I did not see any increase in any of the monitored fluid temps.

Can you post some pictures of that -- in final form I mean? I trust that one is a simple install, other than getting the nose panel painted?--
