You need to modify the water passage or block for the same reasons putting a 951 head on a 104mm block. All else is bolt up.

Thanks Mike , I thought that might be the case.
Is this an expensive process?

I don't think it would be any more difficult or expensive then going the other way.

Why would you want to use a 2.7 head on a 2.5?

Makes no sense.

The ports are different, the combustion chamber is probably larger (due to the larger bore), and the water jacket is different. Plus the 2.7L head is worth good money to someone using a 3.0L block.

I can't find a reason for it either.

The 2.7 head sells for over a $1000 as a core (at least before the finacial crash) so it would make more sense to use a 951 head (at about a tenth of the cost) which bolts up without modifications -- unless you had big exhaust porting plans. If you modified a 2.7 head to fit the 2.5 block, you would be paying a few hundread dollars to devalue the head by about $1000.

No kidding !
I didn't know that, I have a good complete 2.7 engine that I have been wondering what I should do with.

Mine is off at the machine shop and they haven't called me...they probably destroyed it. So I might need one. That stuff about them being worth something? Lies. I'll give you 5 bucks.

I was thinking of the bigger intake and ability to port it.
If I decide to cancel the 3.0L build, I'll probably rebuild my 2.5L and mod it.

At this point no-one seems interested in the parts I have
for the 3.0L so I might just keep it and build it as the funds allow.

Keep your 3L parts and slowly build that up. You won't regret the extra capacity.

Yes I'm starting to think this will be the best way to go.
I won't have to go crazy with it to get good power from it.

That's definately something to consider Tim. And as several people said the 2.7L head is a very rare commodity in this market.

Hey Rob

I agree they are rare but in this economy you can't get
the money for it you could just a few months ago. This is why I'll probably keep the parts.
