Default 944 Aftermarket Control Arms

Wanted to get some feedback on the various aftermarket control arms available. I have an 89 Turbo S that I race in PCA G Prepared and need to upgrade my 968 ones. I am considering the Lindsey, Racers edge, Fabcar and Charley arms. I see Stable Energies (http://www.stableenergies.com/prodin...number=WR-944L) & Autometrics (http://www.autometricsmotorsports.co...rley/index.htm) sell the Charley arms but I get the sense they aren't the original ones everyone talks about so Im not sure of the quality. Of those listed above what do you recommend. I just want something I wont have to worry about breaking and I want to be able to get replacement pins and such if needed.

Thanks
Brian

hi, I have fabcar arms on mine and have no complaint about them. Just bought new pins which I was told to replace every 2 years and parts were easy to pick up from OG racing. The charlie arms are certainly nicer to look at but the fabcar arms can be found at a good price. (sometimes)

I am looking to run my 88TS in PCA G class this year because I have a S2 R&P ad thherefore cant run F class. What prepared mods do you have and how competative is the car?

I have Charlie arms on my car. Having seen the FEA on the charlie arms, I wouldn't run anything else. I'm sure the other arms out there are okay, but my life and that of those that ride in my car are worth the few extra dollars. I'm not a fan of welded arms myself because a single poor weld can create a weak link that I'm not willing to accept to save a few bucks. I would love to see a FEA on some of the other arms.

I don't think the Charlies are available anymore. He doesn't want to make any more. There is a lot of work involved. According to Racers Edge theirs keep the geometry correct for lowering the car.

I have the Racers Edge part and have had no problems. Good fit and finish, high quality. Different pin sets are available for lowered car. Check to confirm delivery date though, they may not be in stock.

What's the deal with those links too?
OK I googled them and got in. Try emailing these guys and see if they have any Charlies in stock? I'm betting nope.

My joints, and bushings are new, but I had always planned on replacing with charlie arms, would be a shame if they werent available any more. Theirs got to be a price.

IMHO... Most aftermarket arms are not needed on street cars.

Race cars or cars that see heavy track use it is different. I personally don't like any arm that uses a rod end where the treads are in bending due to braking loads. That is not the right way to use a rod end puts the most stress in the threads. That makes it the weak point in the design. It could work for while and maybe even if you had a thick enough end, but I would not bother with that. If I am going spent $$$$ on arms you might as well get really good ones.

BTW... I run stock steel arms on my NA. They work fine on my light, low hp, small tire car.

Being able to change the ball joints easily is a big plus. Plus arent they much stronger than stock?

The stock are plenty strong for the street. As for ball joint replacements thier are kits to do that on street cars.

If you are taking corners at 100 mph at 1.8 g's and braking at 2 g's from 150... maybe you need to change them out.

Yeah, so far Ive had limited success with the ball joint kits. Well see how these ones hold up. New OEM arms are almost as expensive as charley arms.

Here's a thread about another alternative which should be available in the coming months. He plans on offering them with and without camber/caster adjustment links, early and late offset. All will use the early 944 ball joints, for easy and low cost replacement.
