Leaky headgasket pics
These are pic from the top of the block on my engine. I have a MLS gasket with copper spray and this leaking has happened about 1.5K miles since install. I did the 90 degree torque job on it. I am wondering if that is correct for a MLS gasket. And can I retorque it or do I need to get another gasket and start over? Also IF I need to redo the job should I just get a wide fire gasket? By the way the leaking is only on the out side as far as I can tell, there is no smoking from the exhaust and none of the cylinders are wet.

Are you sure that's coming from the HG? I say this because it is VERY unusual for it to leak oil from there. The oil pressure feed and returns are on the other side of the head. For that to be happening the oil would have to be running up hill to the other side of the block or it would need to be leaking past the head nut and washer, onto the top of the gasket, and then uphill to that spot. Again, unusual but I guess not impossible...... I would suspect that coolant would be leaking as well.
Are you sure your not getting blowby from a loose hose, AOS seals, or something else? That spot on these motors tend to collect everything so it can be hard to trace.

95one I got the headgasket back in 2004 and I cant remember where I bought it. Jeremy at first there was just a little coolant there now oil too. I cant tell that there is oil coming from anywhere else. Just the whole length of the head where it meets the block is where it is wet. The cam tower gasket is dry but it does look like there is oil being pushed up throught the washer on the number 3 cyl. Final torque was 15ft lbs. followed by two 90 degree turns.

I have never used the 90deg method i know most of the company's say torque it too 67ft/lbs ( finial step) but i noticed over the years that is too soft of a torque not using the 90deg method. I torque in steps of 15 then 42 then a finial of about 85-90ftlbs and haven't had the MLS leak. Also have you coated it with a polymer coating on both side upon assemble?

I have a 5 year old MLS torqued using the 90 degree method, installed without copper or other sealants, and it doesn't leak a drop. I bought it when they first came out for the 951's. Prior to swapping out the HG, I would clean the area very well and drive the car. Check it on 200 mile intervals and determine the true source of the leak. it is very unlikely that it is leaking up hill, past the head washer and nut and then running down the head. Not impossible, but worth another look.
If it is doing that, you will be very likely to have oil in your coolant.

Thanks Jeremy. I believe I did install it dry too. I do know I have a coolant leak so I will change that gasket and then do the 200 mile trial. I will keep everyone posted thanks again to all.

I know GeorgeD had seeping problems with his MLS gasket that was due to a rough mating surface of the block created when it was nikasiled. He was only leaking coolant and that was fixed by adding some sort of stop leak his engine builder gave him.
So, make sure your sealing surfaces are really good as this may cause a leak.

A very late update.... I found leaking on both ends of the cam tower. It was leaking out on the top side down on to the engine. When I took off the tower the bottom part of the gasket was fine (by the headders) but on the top side of the gastket it was all broken apart. Could this have been from when I first put the cam tower on after I did the HG?? I plan on installing a new cam tower gasket later this week. Right now I don't think that the HG is leaking too. But the rear cam cover cork gasket was leaking also. Anyone have any ideas why the top side of the gasket broke to pieces???
