Various factory motorsport "cup" chips existed: 86 German Cup, possibly up to 3 different sets for the 86 US Escort/Clubsport, 87-88 Euro and Canadian Cup, 3 different sets for the 87 US Escort/Clubsport, and chips from the French Cup series when the cars were upgraded for '89 or '90.
Very few original chips are floating around - the bootleg copies are somewhat to very suspect.
Power levels of the different chips varied. Pretty hard to confirm actual numbers, even the numbers the factory published are not certain (common for the factory to under-rate hp figures on their motorsports cars).
My understanding is that the "regular" cup chips for the Euro and Canadian K26/8 cars run slightly more advanced ignition timing and a higher rpm limit, so fairly similar to any aftermarket DME chip. Factory pubished numbers are 250hp & 272 ft/lbs, which is just a hair higher than stock turbo S #'s (247/258). Rev limiter was at 6700 rpm. My guess is that the 250 bhp number is slightly conservative.
The 87 US Escorts came with 3 sets of chips, 1 set designated as “eco” (economy) for endurance races, 1 set for sprint races, and one set for qualifying, called “power” chips (in the factory notes). The general consensus is that these chip sets were good for 250, 275, 300 bhp respectively. For various reasons, its very probable that the 250 bhp chip set was the same (or nearly the same) as the later Turbo S stock chips. The sprint chips were likely the regular Euro (and later Canadian) Cup chips. The power/qualifying chips were mapped for higher boost and 100+ Octane. A 3.0 bar FPR was included for use with these chips, and there is mention of wastegate modifications (stiffer spring and 3mm shims) in documentation. This chip mapping is probably the same as used for the late French cars (which were rated at 290bhp), as those cars were also upgraded with a 3.0 bar FPR and modified wastegate with the chip set.
