Yeah, that would be mostly what I wanted. All I need really is the controller, and a read out that goes higher than 20 psi my current gauge does.

I had an AEM digital boost gauge and could not stand it. It's difficult to keep track of what is going on. A needle type gauge is much easier to follow.

eniac nah my piont was that that factory system pulls 3psi of boost of when .

you can still do the fine tuning of the curve with ebc in the EMS and have a adjustable bleed as well that will adjust the max boost .
can your ems do multiple maps ?
that way you just match boost pressures with fuel types and have a map for each an if able to be done with an external inpt only allow the crap fuel low boost in first gear .if its not for feul why would you change the boost ?

so you realy need differnt maps including boost

I went from Profec B to Apexi AVC back to MBC. Love the MBC. 1st gear 18psi, 2nd 18psi, 3rd 18psi, 4th 18psi, 5th 18psi. Each and every time, spot on, rock solid. What can I say. It really is set and forget. The EBCs just seemed to be too temperamental and often had boost creep.

Ahh understood. I was thinking ignition timing which it pulls either way. Your reffering to cyclic valve duty cycle that it pull to drop boost. I never really thought of this as an issue since with a stock chip, the DME will go into limp mode anyway when factory boost is exceeded. That safe guard would still be there. With aftermarket chips then it would vary.

I have two different boost maps on my AVC-R. One is for 94 octane gas, the other is for E85. I had to adjust the duty cycle quite a bit on E85 as it gave me much more boost sooner so if your switching fuel types often then I agree, you do need multiple boost maps as well.

The AVC-R is great if you love tinkering and have lots of time. It's by no means "set it and forget it". It's very picky to feedback speed and duty cycle. If these aren't dialed in correctly then you will either have boost creep or spikes no matter what boost level you set. The good part of this is that you can adjust some of these things out of a car that you might not be able to with a MBC or simplier EBC. I love the gear based boost on my AVC-R. When I'm running 30psi, I obviously dont want the full 30psi in first or even second. I set first to about 22psi, second to 27psi, 3rd, 4th and 5th is 30psi. It also has a scramble boost option that I have wired into a button on my steering wheel. Right now it's set so whenever I hit the button, I get 35psi boost for whenever I want a bit extra power, when I let off the button, it goes back to the normal set psi.

AVCR - I you like gadgets and are geeky.
Profec B or Blitz - If you like simple set and forget and need some fine tuning or had issues with a MBC.
MBC - Simple, basic, cheap, works, proven.

+1

I think it's worth the effort if you want to minimize wheel spin shifting gears and maximizing peak traction in gear.

yeh you need to rig it up so the Dme sees a reduced pressure signal and doesn't go into limp home but so the duty cycle still influences boost .
yeh i intend to set mine up so first gear only sees a 94 octane map 98 octane second gear and 107 /E85 for 3rd to 6th

I really like this old Blitz SBD i-d.
Easy to use menu, good assortment of
features, holds boost rock solid.
The old ones are cheaper on ebay.

I've got the AVC-R and it was a pain in the **** to set up. I guess I'm "geeky" because I'm sticking with it....for now.

It's actually not that bad to set it, just takes some driving around and flooring it in third gear, I set mine to 14 psi in third and never touched it since, does require some patience and playing with the **** though...

I use a Blitz SBC I-Color, and love it.

It's plenty easy to use, and is rock solid.
