Default Anyone polish an exhaust tip

A shop by the office just replaced the rusted exhaust tip on my 951 with a piece of stainless pipe. not the prettiest, but it will do the job. the old tip was rusted almost all the way through by the hangar.

I didnt want to spend the $ on a chrome tip, only to toss it when I decide how stock i will keep the car.

How would i polish the stainless while on the car?

I have heard, but not tried, that this is the product for you: http://www.lusterlace.com/auto.html

If you get it, let me know how it works!

You call up Tim at SFR and order a SFR QF 3" stainless cat-back and he does the polishing work for you!

Stainless is too hard to polish by hand.

Just try something like Noxon? You don't need anything expensive.

I agree. I have had moderate success using appropriate compounds and a buffing wheel on a bench grinder, but it's not like polishing aluminum.

It also depends on the type of stainless on how well and how long it'll hold a polish. Is it 304 (austenitic) or 409 (martensitic)? Hopefully it's 304, but even then it can turn a gold-ish color over time.

So let me see IF I follow this....You are "polishing your tip" with an old "sock"?
Lemme guess, the "rubbing compound" is warm and slippery. MMMM HMMMMM... Are you using this hand?>>> If you go blind you'll be doing this.>>>

remove catback
Sand paper lowest grit to highest then use a varying speed orbital with stainless polish. This is what I did to remove the smog spots off of the tips on my audi.
