A shop by the office just replaced the rusted exhaust tip on my 951 with a piece of stainless pipe. not the prettiest, but it will do the job. the old tip was rusted almost all the way through by the hangar.
I didnt want to spend the $ on a chrome tip, only to toss it when I decide how stock i will keep the car.
How would i polish the stainless while on the car?

I have heard, but not tried, that this is the product for you: http://www.lusterlace.com/auto.html
If you get it, let me know how it works!

Stainless is too hard to polish by hand.

It also depends on the type of stainless on how well and how long it'll hold a polish. Is it 304 (austenitic) or 409 (martensitic)? Hopefully it's 304, but even then it can turn a gold-ish color over time.

remove catback
Sand paper lowest grit to highest then use a varying speed orbital with stainless polish. This is what I did to remove the smog spots off of the tips on my audi.
