I use a 3inch SS Magnaflow coupled with a test pipe-burbles nicely at idle and gets loud from 3000+ rpm. Pretty loud on full boost but more of a bassy sound. Passes the local yearly inspection for loudness (at idle, though).

I'm still unsure how they sound different, but here's some facts from the Summit website (comparing the two that would fit in my application):

Borla XR-1:
-Body is 12" long
-Oval is 4.5" x 7.85"
-Construction is "straight-through baffled"
-Price is $179

MagnaFlow stainless-steel race series:
-Body is 14" long
-Oval is 5" x 8"
-Construction is "perforated tube"
-Price is $124

I'm leaning towards the MagnaFlow - but just because its cheaper price. I'm not sure if the Borla's extra $55 is worth the 2" shorter (which will be easier to install).

If I have time at work, I'll do more youtube searching and see if I like the sound of one over the other.

I got a Magnaflow 4in in 4in out with band clamps if you want to try it out. Its the lindsey racing one. I only have back section as CEP (Dave) is modifying the front section for the custom DP with a band clamp so it can go from 3 to 4 instand 2.5 to 4. I am currently not using it.

I'm in need of a new muffler (2.5" piping.. 2" tip. WTF?) once you get yours I'd like to hear it in person. Never actually heard another 951 running, but mine is real quiet..

btw: thanks for the PM. I totally forgot about the DME/KLR as i was leaving your garage. Next time I'll remember to pick em up. now I'm about to go outside and put the trailing arm on

Back to back it seems the borla is more raspy at idle and low rpms. The Magnaflow seems to be more throaty and muffled at idle and low rpms. Crusing around town my magnaflow seems alot more quiet than my old setup which is why I like it so much.

It seems like the borla is a great choice too just a little louder and different sound at lower revs.

Well, shoot - you should have said something. I would have started it up for you! You could hear it with an open pipe.

Best of luck on the trailing arm. Let me know how it goes.

LOL. I noticed that too.

Reno, whatever muffler I got with, I plan on welding it on and being done with it... So, unless yours is for sale, I won't "just borrow" it - 'cause you'll never get it back.
