Default Vitesse chip 24pin vs. 28pin

so hopefully in the next week i'll be receiving my used but almost new Vitesse MAF kit, chip set and SMT6 setup for my turbo. The only issue i see is that the chipset that comes w/ this although its burnt for 55lb injectors which i have , the chip is a 28pin and my car being an 86 is 24. I've heard you can just stick an 89 DME in an early car w/ a late style chip but i wasnt sure how true that was. I also wonder if John V would swap me the 28pin for a 24pin or not. Maybe John will chim in but anyone else know about this dme swap thing?

He might, but his general policy is that he doesn't support third party Vitesse equipment, due to so many factors, mostly regarding the vast variances from one set up to the next.
I do believe that you can install a late DME.

If you have a chip/board it works with either 24 or 28 pin DME.

I have the 28 pin chipboard with a 24 pin DME,

In the picture with the DME, there will be two pins on each side that will be "free" and not hooked in to anything on top of the dme chip input.
Hope that makes sence.

24 pin socket can be easily modify to 28 pin. No need to get a newer box.

Dan,

While it may not matter, I've been driving my 86 951 all summer with the DME out of the 88 951S. Seems to run just fine. Or, at least as fine as I would expect.

No problemo, I owe you one! Still no word on the Indy M3, but the one we bought in Cbus is a **** ton nicer and a much rarer combo. Sucks we couldn't hang and relax, but nothing beats changing an alternator in 30 degree weather, eh?

www.vitesseracing.com/ChipBoard.jpg

the vitesse website shows the chip installed w/ two pins hanging off on the left side-opposite of the red resistor. Which way is correct?
