Have you found that straight ethanol is easier/cheaper to source/tune than Toulene, etc. ? I have never looked for toulene?? I come from a blown alky background so methanol is and has been my fuel of choice same with ethanol

I.e. if you did not have access to E85, what route would you go for octane enhancement? As stated above, methanol supplemental for sure

I remember in geometry class having the debate (YEARSSS ago) with the teacher that in terms of area you got more with two small pizzas than one large pizza...in general.

Or in automotive terms more flow/surface area from dual 2" exhaust than singe 3" exhaust.
I think it has more to do with exhaust pulses and valve opening and closing events, negating the reversion of the next cylinder. I think Porsche had this in mind when they paired the header tubes the way they did.

Well I was using this 30% addition of E85 more as a knock preventative rather than crank up the boost on that track day. I was concerned that it would be a hot day and I wanted to run about 1.4 bar. Kinda stupidly I tried it the night before. My tank was almost totally empty and I put in some 98 pump. (Our 98 is about your 93) and I topped it off with about 30% E85. Instantly the AFRs went lean as I hadn't added any fuel to the mix. So with the SMT6 we just richened up the mix to run at low 11s on WOT. It all seemed to work fine. (Shameless plug to follow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JygHyzK4ZKc ) The guy in the 996 said he had about 500hp so with the 4wd and all the other electronic stuff, he had the jump on me. My setup is a stock 2.5L motor with Vitesse stage 5 kit, full 3" exhaust no cat, and big front mount i/c. My guess is I'm at about 330-350whp at 20psi. I don't have a knock counter. This is to go on soon. I've never heard any ping at 1.4bar though and never felt any timing/boost being pulled.

No disrespect intended but you beat the driver not the car.

None taken and I agree. Ha, I'm not sure if that's a backhanded compliment or a forehand smash lol
I guess my point was that I haven't had much experience with the E85 yet, but so far so good. Ran the car on the track at 1.4 bar with no ill signs.

Ha Patrick, I'm just trying not to be an

I have been working on some other things and it snowed enough to warrant driving the van the last couple days.

I will say that I am probably going to leave it as is and get it coated. Considering I have been happy with it already there is really no need to make another one (other than some crappy welds due to filling big gaps ).

The other things I have been doing entail timing and with the '83. I have put off the S2 trans once again b/c I am now obsessed with geting some timing first with THIS setup it's pretty cheap I am just talking now to see if I can get them to use a 3 bar
