Default Track day at 37 degrees! - interesting

So I was determined to get one final track day this year. The Local 2.3 mile road course said they would be open so I took the day off to play.

it was a high of 37 degrees today. Very different. Never tracked anywhere near this cold.... not sure I will again.
The good - CAR LOVES THAT AIR!
The bad - Simply can't build much of any heat in the tires

Ultimately too much power and cold tires works the **** out of the driver. Down the front stretch I inadvertently sent the car sideways a few times in the power, though it never got away.

One of my goals was to really push the brakes to test the fluid/pad changes I made as previously I had problems boiling the fluid at this track after only a few laps. As soon as it felt like the tires were starting to come in i pushed it a bit ..... and the **** hit the proverbial fan. I am embarrassed to admit I spun the car huge! No real damage but a real rough ride sideways and backward through the rumble edging and beyond. Just no way to push that hard on tires that won't heat up...... I tried.....

I may have caught the big spin on in car video...... though I will have to see it before deciding if I will share....

Anybody else to to track when it is this cold?

No video, no story!!
Glad to hear you and the car's ok. Did you come to any conclusions re the brakes? I'm still debating whether to go bigger again...
You probably need to use Wets in that temp lol.

Yeah I know - without video blah blah blah...... I am looking at it now, the height of the camera is awful... way way to low in the car, can barely even see the road in front of the car...... have not found if the spin, still looking

As for the brakes - I could not draw any real conclusions. They felt great not a second of fade or soft pedal but I could not push the car near as hard as I wanted to really find out. Tires were just too cold.

I did 2 track days this year that where around 40dg F (5dg C.)

Both days were non-stop rain.

Here I am on worn A032R's not having any traction:

I also tried going out on snow tires, which was interesting.

okay - I am afraid the tape ended before the big spin - sorry fellas, I am bummed.... it was pretty violent in car so I thought it would be fun video....

Anyhow I'll post up a lap - Fair warning the video is bad height and tough to watch but maybe with the course map it will be easier to follow

I know, I know, I owe some other video for a long time - standing mile and sorc road race - soon!

Mid Ohio last fall- 120mph on the back straight with snow building up on my windshield is just alittle too much for me. I almost spun it a few times and said ok thats enough. Some people were out all weekend w/ all wheel drive having a blast.

SNOW - holy **** that is a bit nuts.

I was running 15psi, Vflex image. Run the entire track in 3rd and forth gear. About 120mph down the front stretch, about 100mph down the mid stretch if you carry the ideal line.

sorry - yes pump gas image.
I don't have multiple octane (91 and a 93) pump gas images however, so don't know what to tell you there.

Specifically The image is
Default pump gas image, with over boost and rev limit set via piggyback and pull ignition over 14psi

Yeah all of our setups are going to be a little different. What you described above is my basic v-flex 93octane image(its a little more aggressive).

How did you like it? How does the car feel driving around on 15psi with that image? When do you think you're hitting full boost?

Definitely like this setup.

Car feels very good at 15 psi - that is my base minimum setup (1 bar wastegte spring)
nice and smooth to street drive, with plenty in the mid and top when you want it.

full boost - I would guess 3400 RPM give or take... On the track it seems instant as rarely are you ever under 3500.

also the power is fast but smooth.... the bursty *** 26/6 before would frequently upset the car on corner exit if you rolled into the throttle early, this is so much better to drive fast, much more power in a wider range that you can modulate
