Since I took out the dme and klr this summer, my car will surge at 500 rpm and sound like it has one mad cam. When you rev it, it still sounds very rough. It also puts out grey/black smoke when you rev it. The surging will go away after about 3 minutes or once you start moving and get a mile down the road. It only does it on start up and it is very bad on cold start but it will do it on hot start up. I want to fix this before it snows and it is getting down in the 20's in Valparaiso, IN. It is also very embarrassing when ricers look at my car on startup since it sounds like **** and I know I can womp on them.
people have said it is the reference sensors but I want to make sure before I purchase anything

i had a similar problem and my fuel pressure regulator had the vac. line unplugged causing it to run very rich on startup.

It idles fines once it is warm
