Default What is the best MAF kit for a Stock 951

I have minor mods and want to know what the best MAF kit out there is.... I have a stock engine with a Tial wastegate and a B&B exhaust.

Also is this even neccessary because I have seen someone " maybe Lindsey" put down almost 300 wheel horsepower on a 89 944s with just a Max chipset, stock AFM.

All I am looking for is approx. 270-280 wheel horsepower.

you're gonna need a bigger exhaust to hit that power # and also turn up the boost. IIRC the B&B is a 2.5" catback.

LR hit 300rwhp with a 4" exhaust and 16lbs boost on a turboS. stock is ~12lbs

With a 2.5" test pipe, I got 265 WHP/278TQ, at 15 PSI, and that was with the stock airbox and "stealth" MAF. 275/303 at about 17.5 PSI. That was with the 26/8. Standard MAF and cone filter would help, I'm not sure how much a 3" exhaust will help yet. The MAF gives you better throttle respons and driveability, I doubt that at under 300 WHP a dyno will show that much of a difference between AFM and MAF.

In my relatively limited experience with the 951, i think 270whp is achievable with a AFM and a 26/6 with proper chips mapped for 15-16psi, gutted cat, 3-bar FPR and a manual boost controller. Wastegate is not necesary but in my opinion a must to be able to hold boost pressure. I think 275-280whp is going to be pretty much the maximum you will be able to reliably pump out of 26/6.

I dont think a MAF is neccesary for your goals.

I would say that a MAF kit is pretty useless unless you are going to use another turbo. The standard turbo is the major restiction in the engine. Turning up the boost in a standard turbo over 15 psi is another bad idea. Added boost will only produce heat, as the turbo is used outside of its sweet spot.

People i've spoken to a few poeple running the SciVision MAF kit (ranging from 1 bar to 1.2 bar boost pressures) and one running the Vittesse stealth MAF kit without piggy back and they have reported that the MAF provides them with much better driving characteristics, quicker spooling and better performance at high RPM where the stock turbos run out of steam. Sure there is no massive power or speed increase as a result of the MAF alone, but they seem to provide better driving characteristics, which all adds to the experience. Also people running Scivision MAFs on S2's report similar improvements in driving characteristics.

Also they seem to get an improvement in MPG - about 5mpg on a turbo. Definately worth the upgrade in my opinion, it's the next item on my list. It's not all about chasing HP and Torque.

Thanks to all, since I am not worried about MPG on this car, I will keep the stock AFM and upgrade to a K26/8 turbo with a chip change. From all of your responses I think that will get me to my 270-280 whp goal.

That will get you a little more power, but not better throttle response which is nice for a daily driver. Then you'll want a MAF, and then a bigger turbo unless you're much different than most others here. I don't know what you're paying for the turbo, but it didn't take me long to get bored with the 26/8 and AFM. If that happens, you have to get a chip again to go with the MAF. If you get a Vitesse MAF and chip/board now with big injectors , you'll be set to get a bigger turbo down the road when you want more power without having to change chips again. Just a thought.

I have to agree with this. I've been running the SciVision MAF kit for close to two years. very happy.

I agree, not going to net you much more power at all. I would say a stock afm car and a maf car side by side at high rpms in boost will be very close.

Take the above comparo. from a dead stop or off boost and the maf car will be ahead by 2-3 car lengths in a hurry. Maf cars respond SO MUCH BETTTER!!!!!!!!!! Man I miss my maf.
