Okay, search revealed I only need one pin. Does it look damaged in the pic?

Well, its shiny, which means its had some sort of contact. Its impossible to get a clear pic, but its supposed to look like a threaded allen head bolt. Is it bent? Kinked at all?

What about the connection for the ref. sensor on the intake manifold? If the engine is running like crap, can you wiggle the connectors and feel a difference in running? How about the wire feeding into the reference sensor?

The sensors are new so the wires connected to them are fine. The allen screw is shiny, but the bolt doesn't look bent. It should only protrude just above the flywheel, right?

Yes, im not sure how much, but it should just protrude a bit. You'll have to use your best judgement, does it look okay to you?

The gap is needs to be 0.8mm +/- 0.3mm. No room for error on this spec.

It has been a while, but I believe that there should be a snowman shaped washer under the speed sensor, I cant tell exactly from your picture, but it looks as though it's not there. If the washer is missing and you set the gap between the speed sensor and the ring gear to .8mm, then the gap between the trigger bolt on the flywheel and the ref. sensor will be much too large. That gap will be on the order of 3 to 4 mm and will probably produce a very weak signal.

Default re: I removed mine

When I was installing VR wasted spark system it would not work until I removed the washer and lowered the sensor closer to the pin...

My fly wheel pin was set at stock level .8mm.

What's the latest Michelle?

Good points, I totally forgot about the washer under the speed sensor

I've had a visitor from Russia the past two weeks and had to replace the xenon ignitor in my Bimmer last night. I really don't know where to go from here. I have to go to MI this weekend; I may start putzing around with it the weekend after.

Thanx everyone for all of the ideas!

The washer is under the sensor for the toothed ring, right?

Default re: The one I removed..

Michelle,

My apologies for the delay in responding I wanted to be sure of the part I removed so I had to locate it which means I had to go through my entire stash of parts.

My wife calls my STASH a wrecking yard Blah Blah Blah...

Anyway removing it about 2mil thick fixed my VR wasted spark problem.
Always wondered if John added my fix to his WS instructions? as I suggested?

Moral of the story:

When you gap the sensors, make sure your digital calipers are set for mm and not inches!
