Default popping out of 1st

I just got home from the most annoying drive i've ever had with this car. Almost every time i put it in first it would pop back out and sometimes not go back in for a few tries. This is great when your on the highway waiting for a light and have a dozen people on their horns. I tried holding it in place and it started grinding so that didnt work. For some reason it feels like the shifter doesnt push into 1st and 3rd enough, even though 3rd is fine (fingers crossed). Today was the first cold day (not too cold though) the car's been driven, could the oil be too heavy? Coming home it wasnt doing it as bad since it was warmed up so maybe thats the problem or coincidence? My trans mount also isnt too good, can that cause it or is the trans/tt one peace anyway so it makes no difference?

Has the shifter lever worn? Has anyone worked on the shifter linkage?

Not sure about what is going on here. Can you reinstall the OE shift lever and see if it makes any difference?

what about the bolt that holds the linkage together for the throws?

I had one get loose on me and it got harder and harder to put/keep in gear until it eventually popped out completely. leaving the level feeling like a broom in a bucket of oatmeal.

The original lever was badly worn and thrown out.

It turned out to be something stupid. I knew the set screws rattled out of my lindsey lever but didnt think it would do this, but it turned out the height adjuster screw rattled too far into the shifter blocking the linkage. I adjusted it back and found a screw for it, now it's fine. An lsd trans is tempting though
