I calculated that I needed aprox 620hp to keep with my friends at straight.
we will see, depending on what he dynoes, I know how much hp I need.

very nice Anders, although I am not a big fan of the widebody (depends on how it is done) I'm pretty sure this combo will pull it off well.
Don't forget to design in a large turbo to go with the large engine and wheels

Than what? Where do you draw the line? Do you want us all to go back to 7"x 15" Phonedials? I agree some wheels would be/look too big on our cars (20") but in this case I see no reason not to go up to this width.
Anders, what body kit are you going with? Those wheels look very nice. Where are they made, sounds local to you. Price?

Going with a wider tire can actually decrease contact patch, depending on vertical stiffness. But discarding that, what changes is the pattern of the contact patch (longitudinally shorter as the tire gets wider). Loading across the contact patch may be more uniform, thus potentially increasing grip. Decreasing tire pressure and/or increasing load will increase the contact patch, regardless of tire.

Actually, you do

You seem to be arguing that wider tires do not increase lateral grip, but then you say that they could 'potentially increase grip'.
Of course wider tires give you more lateral grip! Have you ever put significantly wider tires on your own car and felt the dramatic difference it makes? Size of contact patch when the car is stationary or rolling in a straight line is not what it's about. What wider tires do in a hard cornering is resist rolling under and walking sideways, which keeps more tire on the pavement (ie larger contact patch under hard cornering).
My question remains, do you think your car would be faster around a track with 195's or 295's? If you have empirical results that prove that cars hold higher lateral g's with narrower tires, I want to see!

if it gets to hot, add tire, to cold, remove tire, worn in middle, decrease pressure, on sides, more camber etc. I have a pyro.
judging by hansB's result on spa-francochamps... wide rules!
I'm at the nürburgring now, going to spa on sunday... spent the day in the m5 and 997TT, will maybe bringout the 944 tomorro, we had rain half the day, brand new cup tires... but still not exactly good on wet.
engine decided to spit blue smoke'ish and some white at start... hehe ok after 10-15 seconds.
dirty burgundy car with no interioir looks kinda ghetto, but I keep u with a lot of weird cars on straights, this is my first time bringing the 944.. no abs, no esp, no traction.. highspeed track
