Considering selling my 951

Considering selling my 951 / FOR SALE: $12,500
EDIT: FOR SALE. $12,500 firm. Link to FS Thread
Hopefully this doesn't violate forum rules, but I want to get some idea of what a fair asking price would be for my car. I'm thinking about buying an e36 325 for the track. After pouring about $10k into the car in 3 years to get it sorted out, I am considering getting something less costly to maintain. I'm not sure I want to sell it, this is just a feeler.
I have been building this car into the perfect (for me) steet/DE car . I know many of you guys and gals tend toward more aggressive modifications under hood and in the suspension. But, I tended toward making a very reliable car that handles great and is competent on the track, but can be driven to and from the track comfortably.
Approx. 118k miles. '86.
The good:
- Completely stock under the hood. Very reliable except for a pesky minor oil leak at the oil pressure sender I think.
- Good turbo (just replaced with a stock 26/6 in excellent condition) 1000 miles ago.
- Fresh clutch (new everything: cup clutch pp, 930 disk, fork, tob, etc) installed 1000 miles ago.
- S2 LSD transaxle with low mileage (approx. 30k according to PO). Shorter R&P ratio gives a little more squirt. Hooks up really well. Has about 8 track days on it.
- All new suspension installed 2 years ago. Koni yellow adjustables, Weltmeister 250# up front and 28mm torsion bars in rear.
- 968 M030 sway bars f&r.
- 968 caster blocks.
- Forgeline Competition RS wheels. Ultra lightweight forged, polished aluminum 17x8.5 front, 17x9.5 rear with Falken Azenis RT-615 tires. I'm guessing about 50% or better tread remaining. (stock phone dial wheels w/ tires will be included as well).
- All new rotors this year. Zimmerman cross-drilled front, oem rear. 80% oem-style Pagids for street, and 50% Hawk HP Plus pads for track included.
- Schnell short shift kit (original shifter hardware included also)
- Power steering pump resealed 1000 miles ago; no leaks.
- Perfect dash, no cracks.
- Momo competition steering wheel.
- Perfect rear hatch.
- Working sunroof.
- Extremely cold A/C (r-134a).
- No body rust, except for under battery tray.
- Interior is very good, except for bolster wear on the driver's seat.
- Alpine head unit with JBL front speakers.
- Paint is pretty good, except for a few minor chips and dings. Good enough to win a Top 25 award at the 2008 Dayton Daily News / SpeedFest car show!
The bad:
- Oil leak mentioned above causes a little smoke when you first start it up. Lasts about a minute and goes away.
- Could use new driver's seat upholstery.
- A/C snowflake button fell off last week. Just bought a new one; will be either installed or included with purchase.
- Washer reservoir removed due to crack. I have a replacement one, but haven't installed it yet; will be included with purchase.
- Rusty battery tray.

You were at the Fest right?? If it's the one I am thinking it is, it's a sweet car!! I think you would kick yourself later. The E36 is a good platform, but seriously, there is a reason BMW stands for Bite My Weenie. I have an E46 that I love, but even with suspension mods and lightening, it will never be as fun as my 951!!

Thanks, Doug. Yeah, you and I were the last two poker players at the Fest. I already know I will kick myself later, but it's one of those things where I have a family and financial obligations, etc... the less expensive car I run, the more track days I can do. I'm not totally sold on the logic either yet. That's why this isn't really a for sale thread, yet.

I just bought an e46 as well. I love driving the car so much, it's part of the reason I'm thinking of getting an e36 for the track. Speed in the straights is fun for sure, and a 325 won't keep up with a 951, but bimmers are very good handling cars as well.

I too am feeling a financial crunch, with all the wedding stuff paid for and over, which is nice and all, but all that money I could have been paying things off with, went elsewhere. So now, I could sell my car, it's not needed REALLY if you ask my wife, it's just a toy to her. And yes, the 10k or so I would get for it would help in paying some things off and make monthly life easier. But IMO, it's paid for, not costing much at all to have (as long as I dont buy stuff for it). And it keeps me sane. Plus do you REALLY want to explain to your neighbors why there is an old BMW where a Porsche used to be? LOL.
