any update? Are the new ones available now (not just through you mike, but through cometic them self)? I am going to take it up with Cometic that they have been selling a improper head gasket and I want them to replace my leaking one. I am looking to replace the head gasket asap but in no way will i replace it with the old version.

We haven't received anything as of yet. We would prefer if you don't contact Cometic and complain about the old gasket. Had we thought people would do that, we would of kept our mouth shut and just let the new gasket enter the market quietly. Their old gasket was their gasket for the 944 turbo up until now. Like anything you purchase, companies improve their product and just because you have their "old" versions doesn't mean you get free replacement or upgrades. Many people have had success with their gaskets, and some have not. Hard to say the reason and you won't be able to prove it wasn't installer error anyway. With our help, they hopefully now have a new and improved version of the gasket, which doesn't mean their old gasket wasn't any good as it worked for many. Even us.

Im not trying to be an ***, but it seems if its was faulty enough, that so many people blew theirs, and it warranted upgrading, shouldnt their be a recall? Improper installation is a good point, but still.....

Ill probably upgrade mine as soon as my new 951 gets here, just in case. Dont want any surprises. It seems a bit strange to me, that a company would sell 928 gaskets, as 951 gaskets. Theyre just now realizing they need to redesign them? I may end up going with another brand based on that info alone.

it wasn't even an old version, they marketed a 951 head gasket even though it was a 928 gasket. In turn, as you even said it was a 50/50 crap shoot. I think its annoying that I dropped that much money on a head gasket which was falsely advertised.

Either or. I need a new one soon, so when they are available I would like to pick one up.

Sorry dudes - as many things in life - at your own risk. This is not an OEM part and warranty on aftermarket parts simply does not exist/apply.

that is far from the same at all. they marketed a head gasket that wasn't built for the motor. that's like if some one says they have a 944 turbo for sale but its a 944 with a whistle tip.

Glad to hear you're continuing to work on improving the parts you sell. I have had mine successfully installed for over a year now and have been very happy with it. As for parts working or not working, the only parts I 100% expect to work on my car are the ones that come in a package with PORSCHE written on it. All others carry some level of risk to the buyer.

Not true. They took the 928 gasket and made additions to it to make it fit a 944 8v. They are not interchangable. They start off with a differernt design to cut out, 928 vs 944 pattern, then stamp it with the same tool to compression grove it.

Tooling isn't cheap. They probably had no idea how many 944 gaskets they would ever sell when they decided to go down that road and didn't want to invest in tooling that wasn't going to pay off. That's a good way insure your demise if you do that all the time. One of the ways we convinced them to build a new tool is by reminding them of the number of gaskets we purchase, and what we would be willing to commit to and predict usage in the future. We would like to think we had some influence over their decision.

How often have you went into a store only to find a newer/better version of something you purchased last month and it's even less money!
