Faster steering

Just spoke with Sellholm, a manufacturer in Sweden that produces gearboxes, steering racks etc.
The original rack turns 50 mm per full turn, they can change that to 64 mm per full turn which would translate into something around 2.5 turns lock to lock.
Less turns than that was not possible due to size limitations.
Cost is 7500 SEK including new seals. With the weak SEK that translates into something like 690 EUR including 25% VAT.
This is going on my future improvements list!

Googled "sellholm styrning" (good to know some swedish ) and got interesting results. Seems to me Sellholm also make parts mainly for rally cars just like the finnish manufacturer i have mentioned. It's a interesting alternative to had this conversion made in Sweden since with a finnish vat number i can drop that 25%... so it's less than 600€ after that

Most 3-series BMW racks fits with little modification. I have skipped that idea mostly because it needs modifications to crossmember (welding) and our inspection regulations does not allow do that. Of course i can have new crossmember fabricated from billet aluminium, but that will rise the price tag too much.

At the track I'm not really super concerned about this, but there is some corners at some tracks I think would benefit from a faster steering. It should also help during a situation when you're close to spinning around.
Besides the track I like to autocross, and I would definatly reduce my times there with a faster steering.

I can partially see your point, but only partially, my car turns in like crazy, and when correcting oversteer you rarely use more than a 1/4 1/2 if you are fast enough, if slow you will use a lot more.

If you're looking for the BMW racks, the e30s are slowest, then the e36 325, 328, 96-99 M3, 95 M3, and Z3 1.9 being the fastest. Just for reference.
What would be nice is electric steering like the S2000 to finally rid the 951 of power steering leaks.

Well, my concerns stems mostly from having autocrossed a LOT of different cars over the last few years. When you start to compare many different cars, you will discover what the true shortcomings are of your car, and ours has a ****ty steering ratio compared to some cars. You have to move the wheel a lot in order to get the same amount of turning as some other cars. Granted it's a combination of the rack, and the steering geometry, but at the end of the day, It's just not as sharp and crisp as some other cars I've driven.

I've never really driven a "regular" style 944 though, guess that helps, always had wild geomtry/suspension/uniball etc, and it's shaaarp, and I do drive a lot of cars.
