Default A/F Gauge. How to connect purple wire?

The previous owner attempted to install a A/F gauge (narrow band)

I hooked up power last week, finding good power (key on) and a good ground.
I turn the key and the guage lights up.

I cut his broken gauge out leaving me a good Purple wire to connect to.. or so I thought.
When I connect my gauge's purple wire to the old purple wire he installed for his gauge, my gauge won't light up.

Obviously, he left me with yet another half *** job.

Is there a good source to tap into for my purple wire?

Maybe a wire from the ECU ?

The gauge has power.

I am trying to hook up the purple wire to the 02 senser.
I tried tapping into the purple wire the previous owner kindly left for me, but it is causing my gauge to lose power.

I am searching for a way to hook up the purple wire. I think I can use a wire from the ECU right?

How did you install your purple wire?

What brand/model gauge?

The purple wire on my Innovate gauge goes to ground.

It is an Auto Meter 'Pro-Comp Ultra Lite'. (Narrow-band)

http://www.autometer.com/cat_gaugede...id=3083&sid=11

The directions say, "Violet Wire: Connect to oxygen sensor signal wire. Connect to vehicle wiring harness, not oxygen sensor since some oxygen sensors use shielded wire."

Ditch it for wideband. All a narrow band is good for is pretty colors.

Most of us use the Zeitronix Zt-2 or the Innovate stuff. All of these units have a harness and a box that would plug everything into (gauge, WB sensor). Then you wire it into the vehicles DME harness using the specified diagrams.

Did you get a new gauge and sensor and now you are tryingn to wire it up? Or are you still trying to use the narrowband??

The last time I installed one I ran the purple wire into the engine compartment and Vampire clipped (scotch connector) it to the 02 sensor signal wire just behind the 02 sensor plug on the 02 sensor side where it's not shielded. Took all of 5 minutes.

Reno, I have been searching for a few hours on here. Do you remember where that photo went.. or better yet, what wire to splice and connect to?

Thanks

http://www.lindseyracing.com/IAFM-1%...20at%20DME.rtf

there are a couple of green wires next to the dme plug. now it says "DO NO USE SIGNAL WIRE WITH SHIELDING". i think the big green wires have shielding wire in it and the only small green wire is the afm green wire. this is where im confused.
