In the meantime, it was nice meeting you at the fest Jim! You have forgotten as much knowledge as I will ever learn about tuning, and I respect that! Maybe I'll take a vacation and you and Reno can school me for a week!

FYI: ID on the box labels it as GT30BBR, on their site they have a 3071 and 3076.

Damn don't you own a set of dial calipers??

If I am seeing it correctly the exduder is 3" which would make it the 3076 variety it is definately not a 3071 by looking at your playing cards they are skewed out at the top. From the photos I say it is a 3076. However it would be nice to get a measurement on teh inducer then It would be for sure.

It looks like a stg 3 turbine wheel ~ 1.75 exducer. I could be wrong there, as I am used to T4 stuff and it is definately not that

also looks like a BB center cartridge to me it looks smaller than the journal T3 t4 variety

overall the turbo looks like a very nice unit

Unfortunately he doesn't have a dial caliper, but thanks for your input. The paperwork he has as well as the damn box it came in don't specify anything except GT30BBR so we were just wanting to make sure. It's a BB center cartridge for sure, and he says it spins SO freely.

Thanks for everyones input guys.

One last question, what is the difference between the GT3076 and the GT3076R?

The R means ball-bearing.

That is indeed a Gt3076r, with a .60a/r anti surge compressor housing, and the nice thing is that is an actual true GT series v-band turbine housing. Many Garrett dealers take the true GT series turbine housings off and throw a plain old Garrett T series housing on, which is kind of lame. The neat thing about the GT turbine housings is they have a very slight velocity stack shape to the outlet and provide overall greater efficiency than the standard T series housings.

As far as I'm concerned, a GT3076r w/ .63a/r turbine housing is probably about the best all around turbo on a 2.5l i4 and for anywhere from the 300-450+whp range. Actually, a 3071r w/ .63a/r would probably be just the right balance of performance and response, but the 3076r is only a tad laggier like 100-200rpm or so, basically not by much.
