Code 3-3 KLR

My '86 951 has intermittant boost. I've checked the archives and it seems some have had my exact problem, with different solutions. I have boost for a little while, then it goes to 1.2 safe mode. Upon restarting, same thing, have it for a little while (under 5 minutes I'd guess), then 1.2. I just put a new TPS on hoping that would fix it. I made the LED tester yesterday, and got a 3-3 code, which indicates KLR sensor trouble. I'd like to replace that as a last result.
What should I try before replacing the unit? Certain connections cleaned, etc?
Thanks-
Mitch

Here is straight from the factory manual. Sounds like your gonna need a new/reman KLR.
3 - 3 Pressure sensor in KLR unit defective
Check: Replace faulty control unit

Yeah, I invested in the manuals and read that. Still, I'd like to replace as last resort. Seems like a bad connection somewhere could cause that fault.
Also, has anyone had any luck opening the KLR and finding the bad part? It's probably a $0.50 resistor or something....

Well, the definition of a pressure sensor is normaly refering to a peizioelectric crystal. Not sure it if can be replaced or not. I would swap with known KLR and drive.

Well, I pulled the KLR and opened it up . The piezo sensor is made by Motorola and had a part number. I emailed Motorola to see if it was still being made or available (kind of doubt it). There are a few other small parts on the small seperate board that the pressure line connects to, but my guess is the piezo piece is the culprit. I did find out more info, my car (which was supposedly bone stock) has an Autothority chip in the KLR. I'm not sure how these chips are supposed to be set up, but if my DME does not have a chip, could the chip in my KLR cause trouble? Possibly overboost, and the KLR goes into safe mode?
At least my KLR is not worthless......

Autothority Chips are known to run lean on the top end. And after all of these years they have not bothered to re-map them. I doubt they could trigger over-boost. If your pressure sendor is not reading right, that would do it every day of the week.

Well, that pressure senser, in the KLR; I thought that it was only there to run the stock boost gauge. If that's the case, it wouldn't have anything to do with the original poster's problem.
But, I always wondered if that's the only reason there's a pressure line going to the KLR, so, somebody correct me if they know for sure.

I know John at Vitesse said something about the line needing to be hooked up at the KLR uses that signal for something, but then I have had others tell me that they dont even run that line to the KLR anymore as they dont need the OE boost gauge. Maybe John or ST can give some insight on that.
