I had one on my one engine before it died. Id go with the 10cm hotside. Full boost was at 4K rpm. Huge improvement over stock.

First thing to do is check and see if they have the sport turbo still available. There was conversation at LR that this turbo would be discontinued because of an increase in price...just FYI.

Hot side just depends on what you want the car to do, especially if track duty (which tracks), and where you want the boost to come on. If the car is going to see track duty and you go with the #10, then upgrade your valve springs because I'd bet that you keep the car in the upper rpms if using for track duty. Street car, my .02, I'd get the #8. Having just done a car with LR 340 kit last year with the Sport Turbo and #8, it performs very well, pulls hard, but it is a street car.

Do they offer the dual BB option for the 10cm2 hotside ?
A #10 hotside would be a pain in the *** to drive in town... the dual BB would make it slightly easier...

I have #10 hotside on my car and immediately wished I had checked the box for #8 the first time I took the car out. Too much lag in all conditions, city driving, highway passing without down shifting, etc.

But then I bought a EBC and a LR wastegate and won't look back.

I'm sure once my new chips show up it will be even more fun to drive.

Other then the turbo, what other upgrades are you doing?

Shortly after me making my purchase, LR started offering the 340 kit, in retrospect, I would have preferred the kit over how I pieced a kit together.

LR Sport turbo #8 Hotside. Thanks guys!
Yeah, I am picking up a manual boost controler and a wastegate after I get the new turbo installed.
I would like the 340kit, but I do not have the 4k right now.. so I will peice her together one step at a time.

Hi There,

I have the Lindsey Sport (LS) with 8. I am more than satisfied with its performance. The only slight lag I have is off the line; however, even at low RPM the LS moves more air than the KKK it replaced. Before purchasing my turbo I spoke to several engineers regarding ball bearing vs the journal. Equal hot sides and cold sides will product the same exact amount of flow regards of whether it’s a ball bearing or it’s journal. Therefore, the only real performance difference would be off the line (after replacing my clutch, I come off the line like an old lady.)
The next question was which one would last longer. The journal has been around for a long time and at 140k I changed my KKK because I wanted to. The power that the LS is capable of generating in first is totally useless (I am running at 18 psi). You’ll find second somewhat squirmy too. What I really like is punching its in third and leaving the strips on the road in my rear view. I can’t help thinking that if I had a better set up (like Fast 951 chip set) I’d generate slightly more power. On a dyno my set up generated 340 hp. Hope that this helps you in your decision.

Thanks, this answers alot of questions of mine.

The LS turbo is a direct bolt on right? I realize I will have to tweak my AFM to fit the bigger inlet.

The Lindsey Sport turbo (LS) is a direct bolt on. You will have to modify a Y tube to make it fit. However, the LS is not a stock turbo replacement. Because LS flows more air your motor will need more than stock fuel requirements and timing adjustments. I would be concerned running it at even 12 PSI with stock injectors and settings

I was planning on buying a MAX951 chip with it. How is the spool for 4th gear pulls from 45mph?

Since you asked about 8 and 10...

The 8 is similar in flow and ratio to a T3 .6-.7 or so.
The 10 is closer to a .83 T3 (stock 35R exhaust housing)
You need to establish your entire system before you choose a long-term turbocharger.
The #10 will cost you 300 revs +/- in a controlled experiment over the #8, given the same turbine wheel.

I think this link shows a good breakdown of the difference - #8 versus #10 hotside comparison
