Sweet, we drive "pocket supercars". lol

The last sentence perplexes me...
"Better built than a Lotus, more economical, but overall running costs are more expensive." Isn't that a bit contradictary? If it's better built and more economical, how can it cost more to run?

From a relational standpoint, how may of those Lotus are still running compared to production numbers? How does that compare to the 944t?

A little slanted but an interesting read.

Depends on their idea of more economical. They might mean that it gets better gas mileage, due to the gearing.

Running costs we can all relate to. From our 6 quart oil changes, to the cost of timing belt replacements. I'm sure they consider that anyone in the market for such cars, would be paying dealer prices for maintenance.

Upon a second read...... I wonder if the driver's knew how to drive. How can the heavier, more anemic Lotus out perform 951. Power to weight gives the 951 a huge advantage in the torque category. HP is close to the same.

Rev potential is close to the same, and top speed also is close to the same, which makes me think that their can't be that much difference in gearing. Paper racing would definitely be in favour of the 951...... I don't get it.

Funny article. I raced a newer Lotus (2005 or up I'm guessing) on the highway the other day. It said exige, but I didn't really pay attention. My turbo S is stock and 20 yrs old. I don't know if he was playing with me, but it was barely faster. I'm betting people with more modded 944 T would eat those things alive.

My guess is he meant when the maitenance times do come around, it will cost more to fix. Perhaps he had some inside info on changing a clutch on one of these cars.. .

After seeing the Lotus Esprit featured in "Pretty Woman" and "Basic Instinct", I said to myself what a beautiful car, but they are very rare nowadays. I wonder why they didn't use an '89 944 turbo since the Lotus Esprit was an '89, it wasn't a fair match up, I bet their results would have been better...

I guess the Lotus has lower running costs since they spend most of the time not running..

I would consider both cars being black holes when looking at them with money sense, but maybe the Lotus has less suction? I have no experience of them but like to own one. A friend had one of the V8 turbo versions and said it was the best driving experience imaginable as a road car (he races Radicals and other fast things). He also mentioned that it was rather unreliable and that the ownership experience sucked since it was always falling apart in one way or another. And this was on an almost new car.

The one thing that is nice about Lotus regarding parts in terms of the Esprit is that SOME of them are either Ford or Renault. That makes them fairly cheap and easier to come by. A friend of mine has a late model Esprit, drives it very rarely but is a lovely car standing still.
