It looks like your aluminum water shield may be cutting off close to 50% of your filter's air flow capacity. I've never had a problem with water.

Most of the after market air filter companies like K&N, Airaid, etc make a micro prefilter that helps eliminate water if you are worried about getting water on your air filter. having said that this is not a big issue, I have a cone filter on my 4X4 and you would not believe what goes up inside of that hood and I have had no problems aspirating water.
