Well talked to another dealer. He gave me a build date of july 15th 85. Would this make my car one of the 178 of 1985'? Its my understanding, that production didnt even begin until sometime in the beginning of 85. So how could it not be an "85" I understand its technically an 86', but are their any 85's? Ones designated as an 85? I understand half past the year its considered next years model. If production didnt begin til about midway through 85' then their are no designated 85's, sources ive seen quote 178 "85's" built. Not sure this car fits into that build. maybe thats what pv-u production pilot run is? But why 716 instead of 715, their has to be some significance there.

No the car is an 86, not an 85. The 85's had early dashes. The vin number on the option code sticker you posted indicates it was the 200th 86 951 built. The VIN number you posted indicated it wasn't even a 951 so where are you getting the 178 from? Mine was built in 6/85 and is 134.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/944_Turbo#Production Wikipedia states there were 178 model year 85's I guess. But, Ive never heard of an 85' model year for the turbo, the only turbos produced in 85' are the early model year 86' right? Which would make the early 86's the 85's they speak of? Or were their actually, model year 1985 951's? Btw, the vin# got confused but figured out, it is number 200. And Ill be bringing it home in a couple weeks! Guess I got all my parts from my 87'. Minus fenders, bumper, etc, I guess.

Build date should be stamped on a plate by the fuse panel.

Here's a preseries '84 Turbo.
Old dashboard, N/A brakes etc. Factory made several of these. They were used mainly as a pace/safty cars in some german track events.

Yeah I think C88 is a country code, would think its for the states. But 716 still no luck, Ive called four different dealers, but they dont know either. Interesting 84' turbo, but did they make any production 85's? With the old dash? cause that would explain it.
