Thanks everyone. I really appreciate all of the great input and advice!
My goal in upgrading the car is not horsepower... not yet anyways. I want to create a "perfect base" and then add modifications.
I just bought a new timing belt from pelican, I'm going to do some heavy reading on Clarks-Garage. Thanks again guys,
I'm in Lewiston New York. If a local rennlister could take a look at her and tell me what they think, that would be great!
I have to get her in top fighting condition if western New York is gonna kick *** at 944FEST! haha

You're going to need some additional parts, including a new water pump, if you decide to do the t-belt job. you will also need a few special tools. I would get them at www.arnnworx.com
I may have spelled the link wrong. If so, I'll come back and correct it. Good luck and feel absolutely free to ask any tech question that you need help with.

Thanks E,
I am trying to buy some Silicone Couplers for my custom Air induction project. What size coupler should I order for the turbo side?
Can an amatuer-hack with a bent wrench complete the timing belt and water pump?
If I remove the intake tomorrow morning, will I need to replace the gaskets? I don't have any new gaskets and I was planning on painting the intake tomorrow.

I would want new gaskets.
It takes more than a bent wrench...by a LONG SHOT! Also, it's usually good to replace the rollers while doing that job...t/belt/wp.

I don't know what size the inlet is on the turbo but I can tell you that I would not change the stock air intake system at all at this point. Get the front of the engine sealed up and the timing belt maintenance done and then save up for MAF kit for later on. Personally even before a MAF I would upgrade my wastegate to a 38mm tial and buy the 3" SFR exhaust from the downpipe back.
I wouldn't be in a big hurry to change out the vacuum lines either - there are some folks out there that prefer the factory vaccum line setup as long as all the rubber connectors are still in good shape.

I have a modified inatke already... its doing a great job at sucking in 900 degree heat off the engine.
I have a ventri delete now with fairly new vacuum lines. I just wanted to do a simple update and add some color.
I ordered the tbelt kit. I'm sure I'll be wrist deep in oil asking for your help soon. haha,
Thanks again for the ideas. Keep them comming if you have any more.
I installed a new wideband A/F meter this morning.
Mr P.

As far as sucking hot air through a cone filter you will probably find a world of debate. Hopefully I won't start that here, but the only time you really need to be worried about sucking hot air is at low speed. The amount of air that is being moved by the engine when it is working means that the air does not have a lot of time to get hot. If you are up to speed then you are moving a lot of air through the system. This is a convoluted way of saying I wouldn't worry about the air intake until like everyone else has stated I had a plan on where you are going.
Sounds like you may be after a more aesthetically pleasing look under the hood. But before I worried about aesthetics I would be searching out all of the gremlins that are lurking. I would locate all of the various leaks under the hood that would create problems down the road and start curing them. One that bit me on my first 944 was the vacuum heater valve leaked and dribbled coolant all over my clutch which really has a detrimental effect to the life of the clutch.
You never said what you were building towards. That would make a difference on what path would be recommended. If you are building toward a road car then that would be way different then building toward a 944 spec car.

Bob, thanks for your insight and excellent advice. I won't worry about the intake anymore. I will focus on getting the gremlins out before mods.
My goal for the car is 300 horsepower that can be driven everyday.
