Whats wrong with gas on the outside of a motor? I de-greased the side of my S2 motor with gas. Sure, it had a week or so to dry, but still. Gas is the best and cheapest de-greaser you can buy.

Have you got the car running yet?

water and petroleum based gasoline dont really mix so water will just make a big mess. Just blow it off w/ an air gun thatll dry it quickly - or let it air dry.

Let it air dry. It will be fine. Years ago I had my fuel rail leak on in 944 spec car. I was on grid with a cold motor warming up the grid guy noticed a puddle under the car. I figured it was water so I casually un belted to look at it. Quicky figured out it was fuel and shut the car down. Pushed it back to my pit area and swapped the fuel rail. I cleaned up some of the gas with a rag, but most just evaporated. 2 hours later I make the next practice session without issue. No clean up required.
