Default on the track this weekend and saw 260 deg oil temps

I have a kiss oil cooler but its not enough. what temps do you guys see on the track? for now i'm going to switch from brad penn 20-50 to a full synthetic racing oil that should be fine at that temp but i still dont like seeing temps that high. I was also going to try to run distilled water and get rid of the coolant but don't know if that is advisable with this car.

I was advised to run 15% phosphate-free antifreeze to inhibit corrosion. The rest of my coolant is distilled water (deionized would be even better) and 8 oz of Water Wetter.

Saw distinct improvement in coolant temp as compared to 50% antifreeze-water mix at the track.

Where is your aux oil cooler mounted? Can you enhance airflow through it?

Mine is behind the driver-side fog lamp, which I will remove and substitute a screen (to resist impacts from rocks, tire marbles, and small animals) to increase flow through the aux cooler for this year's track days.

Are you still running a stock intercooler? how is the ducting going to the oil cooler?

I din't think 260 is that bad with syn oil.

I had the LR kiss kit and only ended up useing the lines I replaced the cooler with a 25 row mocal and deleted the stock one. It is mounted right up front with very good ducting. I only see temps in the very low 200s.

Where is your sending unit? In the pan, or at the cooler?

The air EXTRACTION is the ducting that I would concentrate on.

Thats hot.
what is the ambient temp? how long are your track sessions? what turbo and boost are you running?

The maximum i see at the track is 115 Celsius(240), that is with 15min sessions. i am running Valvoline 25-60 racing oil, vitesse stage 3 at 18psi on pump fuel. we recently changed the oil thermostat on our track cars (thanks to Mikes3.0cabturbo for the info) from the 105 celsius opening range to the updated 95 celsius. and so for in 2 track days have not seen temps over 110 celsius.
you could have an issue with your oil thermostat

would you want the belly pans on or off for better airflow/extraction?

my car is a 88 but it has a early motor so I taped the stock oil level sender delete plate located in the pan.

this weekend the sessions were 35 minutes long and it was about 80-85 deg outside. I think the car runs pretty cool for the first 20minutes or so but then the temps start to climb. you gotta figure at least the first 5 minutes is just getting the car warmed up so it looks like your sessions are pretty short and that my be part of the difference. how much change in temps did you notice after the thermo swap? I just don't have time to do a custom set up but if I do one I would use a long core with side ports like the 911 guys use.
the kiss is mounted front and center in front of the IC. I was running 104 fuel and I have a kokeln turbo running stock boost, about 14 psi

Is your intercooler in the stock location or is it a front mount like a SFR, because I would want to have the intercooler get as much airflow as possable especialy since the core is so thick.

the intercooler is stock but how much is intercooler routing really going to affect oil temps.

I would really like to hear what temps people are seeing on long track sessions.

Phil, we were up in nebraska at the club race this last weekend. Temps were 85ish, and we were running about 270 degree oil (sensor in the pan). 30 minute races. We shelled that engine on Sunday when a wrist pin clip came apart. Water temps were also high. We will be making cooling changes to the car on this next engine. I think those are too high of temperatures, and contributed to the engine failure.

On a hot day I see ~250 degrees (sensor in the pan) and I have the KISS setup w/ a stock motor. I have decent ducting going to the front of the cooler (mounted in the foglight opening), and I cut out a section of the fender liner behind the cooler to allow hot air to excape.
